话题: HELP! D’YOU KNOW HOW TO…

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hello to you (from me),

I was given a copy of VDJ as part of a bung (Sunday league football is viciously corrupt). It’s brilliant and I’m learning with every click of the mouse.

I’m running VDJ on a Dell D400 notebook. Not ideal I know, but…
There is a single onboard soundcard and a 3.5mm headphone jack as the only audio output. Through this I have what I think is a stereo splitter (3.5mm jack leading to two 3.5mm jacks), into which I have my headphones and amp+speakers.

In VDJ ‘config’ I reflected this setup in the audio tab (thanks for the picture!). All set, right?

Err… no. I can hear both the live desk and the cued desk through headphones and speakers. I’ve fiddled with the headphone volume and the crossfader, and neither are responsible.
It is clear that either: (a) VDJ isn’t assigning each desk to respective left and right stereo channels, or (2) my laptop itself isn’t splitting the channels between headphones and speakers.

I’m a little bit suspicious about what I’m using as a stereo splitter: I bought this tiny gadget for sharing iPod output between two sets of headphones. Could it be that this isn’t a stereo splitter at all?!

The manual doesn’t say enough about audio setup, and I’ve scoured these forums for previous discussion but to no avail.

I hope you can help. For now, I’m doomed to mix with eyes only… and my neighbours hate me for it.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to mention my disappointment with how VDJ reads library tracks. I’ve spent years building a massive library of mp3’s, and I love them all. My ID3 tags are immaculate. I’m sure we all appreciate the value of organisation when hoarding mp3’s, so imagine my heartbreak when I see that VDJ reads from the filename… which is a detail I’ve never taken care of!

Seems bizarre that this is so, given that even the most basic music software handles ID3 tags. D’you know why VDJ behaves in this way? Anyone else really peeved by this same issue?

Anyway I’ve cleaned up a playlist of vital tracks using a free program, but it was real sluggish so there’s no way I’m doing it for 38,000 individual pieces! I heard some talk of using C++, but i’m not clever enough for such ugly business. Are there any plans for a patch? Or perhaps an update in a future version? Discuss.

Enough jabbering from me. I hope I’ve made sense.

Look forward to hearing from you pro’s. C'mon, lend a hand if you can.

heya , to get vdj to headphone preview properly i recomend you pick up a usb 4.1 soundcard they can be quite cheap about 20 pounds / 40 $

that way you can use the 4.1 option on soundconfig

so you can preview and have a main output at the same time in stereo

not mono

to get information from tags try setting on options "read id3 tags"

hope to see you as a pro user soon :)

Relax! I was joking 'bout the bung thing. Sorry... i'm British.

Ho ho.

Thanks for the tips, Sky. However i already have a DVD drive, modem AND two hard disks routed off a single USB2 port (its a notebook, remember), and that is the only one i have. Anyway, i'm not too bothered about stereo: i've been told to adjust my ear to mono output anyway 'cos thats how it is in clubs. Makes sense i s'pose.

Besides, the idea that it is actually possible to split the desks by stereo channel means i just have to find out how. That's just my way.

About the ID3 tags, the config menu only allows two options (i'm at work so i can't remember them too well right now)... something about 'title' or 'title & comment'. I need artist too! And preferrably genre, but i won't get greedy.

Thanks again for the help. You guys are quick as well as smart.

Mahalo.

yallrite mate, what you have is not a L R divider (like you need) but a stereo splitter.

sky is brittish too but maybe he doesnt follow football enough to get the bung joke.

spliters for headphones are designed to let 2 people hear the same thing, not one hear one ch and the other person the other ch.

the bits your looking for are sometims called 'tip / ring dividers', so named after the parts of the jack that carry the L and R signals in a TRS (stereo jack, Tip Ring Sleeve))
