Simple Registy hack will give the top running program priority over all others inside windows xp.
Open Regedit and navigate to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\PriorityControl'
Modify 'Win32PriorityControl' and give it a decimal value of 38 (or in hexadecimal: 26).

i belive the option is edditable thru control panel,
prioritising kernal CPU management for the active application as opposed to background tasks can adversly affect things like ASIO data. nearly all interface manurfacturers reccomend that you prioratise bor background apps.

thats because on default windows prioratises grafix and other things over audio. if you optimize for Background applications audio has a higher priority.
if you have an apple you don't have to worry about these settings because apple is made for audio (and other professional categories).

In fact, i disagree with this tip ;-)
38 in decimal equals to "My programs"
24 in decimal equals to "Background Services"
So it's useless to modify the value in the registry as it's easier to modify it in Windows lol
If you have an Asio sound card or DJ Console, it's better to use "Background services"
