in an 8/4 bar there are 8 beats not 4,
this means at 180bpm an 8/4 bar will be as long as a 4/4 bar at 90bpm
this doesnt mean to say that the drum and bass track is realy playing at 90 bpm, or that it is doubled up tempos. drum and bass is about twice as fast as hip hop, its also about 50% faster than pop dance, about 20% slower than speedcore and about 300% faster than a typical concerto. drum and bass has next to nothing to do with hip hop, maybe the lyrical content shares some of its roots but thats not integral to durm and bass anyway
what is meant by half beats is a beat that falls on a half beat, eg in a song where the bpm is set at 100 bpm but the true bmp is 200 causing the song to be represented using 'half beats' as full beats
If VDJ radio get round to doing a trial i will show you some 200+bpm : )

Hey, looking forward to hearing that Xeo, i often mix gabber and stuff bordering on speedcore at 200BPM+... not something you can just.. BANG... listen to, you need to get worked into it. :) but i love it, so fast and full of energy.
