There are times when I want to beat mix something at 200+ beats per minute (like Salsa). Is there any reason why there's a limitation of 200bpm on VDJ?

200 bpm can be specified as 100 bpm if your counting full beats only. You should still be able to beatmix with that.
 
200bmp can be specified as 100bmp if you half-time your counting....that's not what I'm looking for. I can beat mix by ear....what I'm interested in is the ability to catagorize music based upon the actual beat structure of the music.

I'm not looking for a band-aid, I'm looking for a fix.

What kind of salsa are you listening too? Merengue isn't even that fast.

Gabber techno, jumpstyle and more is that fast... ;)

Not my cup of tea, but I think VDJ should support more than 200 bpm too

seriously... if your dancing to songs with 200 + bpm's you better consult a physician 1st and have some good health coverage/insurance.
 
You better believe it, because most likely there are some mosh pits somewhere. :) Ever heard of thrash metal, or speed metal as some would call it? That stuff can easily go in the upper 180-200 bpm range.
 
its possible to dance for hours at about 200 bpm if your in good health and have a bottle of water. i and alot of my friends do so on a regular basis,

as someone rightly pointed out some black metal / thrash metal can go as high also and mosh pits everywhere are full of people keeping up with it and going grade A insane for ages

some people dont get fast music, thats cool, i dont get modern urban pop music (hope you get from that description the music im talking about)
 
oh and most drum n bass is like 170, 180 loads of people like that, punk is sometimes even faster with songs around 250 Bpm
 
True but DnB is usually double tempos. You can have a DnB song that's 160 BPM and you can still nod your head like it was 80 BPM hip hop song. Honestly i think if speed metal fans wanted to have a night out they would go listen2 a speed metal band not a dj (keep it hardcore) ;)

 
DnB is never half beats, unless its atmospheric or something slow. you can nod your head to every other beat for any kind of music. most dum n bass is in 8/4 not 4/4, maybe this is hard to get your head round when 95% of modern music is 4/4

drum n bass is not likely to go over 200 bpm tho, i dont have any atleast. its mostly gabba and speedcore that does so, and if anyone needs thrash metal in their record case.
 
no one said it was half beats....

i said it was double the tempo of hip hop

meaning if a 80-ish beat was looped for 2 bars the Dnb beat would have to play 4 times in the same space(2 bars)

 
drums@160, bass@80, you pick what you want your body to follow, that's the beauty of it...

personally in VDJ I enter the DnB BPM ast 160 (not at 80), but often mix it with 80bpm dubs...
 
A little off-topic, but all you hip-hop heads out there. Look at beats like Timberland used with Missy Elliot. A lot of them are D&B beats halfed. In fact a lot of the hip-hop today is double tempoed.
 
almost on topic, can someone upload a short sample of > 200 bpm music? I'm interested in how that sounds :)
 
Pure 200 BPM or double beat hiphop?
