I have been a digital DJ for about 2 years now. I currently use a different software. I however am looking to buy something else. I see that VDJ can do Karaoke, video and beatmix/beatmatch all in one package. Is that correct. If so do you play dvd's or read mpeg etc from hard drive. Does the video also beat mix as well. I have been to the web page but maybe I'm a little thick but I did not see many screenshos of the different applications. I want to download the trial version, but I don't want to waste time if I need special hardware. I know the dmx lighting will require an interface right? Any advise would be great.

Yes virtual dj can do all these, it is very flexible and has many options and ways you can use it.
(eg. controller options, skins)
Unlike other dj softwares this one is at the same time so powerfull and so easy to use, mainly because of it's open source (plugins, skins etc)
And believe me this is not easy for a software programmer..
About dmx i dont know much, maybe someone else can help you.
You can mix video the same way you mix audio.
You can have a preview in your main screen and the output at a secondary monitor or projector if your graphic card support this (via video out or has 2 vga outs).
The same with karaoke and visuals.
You can even scratch video using real vinyl (tcv) and this is one of the most exiting features.

Thanks. I am very excited at what it seems to be able to do. Almost seems to good to be true. I wanted to be sure that I wasn't chasing a golden goose. In another forum someone mentioned using this software and seemed to like it. He mentioned playing Karaoke while a different signal goes to a projector. Suppose this is a function of the video card more so than the software. Right? Forgive me if these questions sound remedial.
Also, what is the difference beside support is home edition and pro edition. From what I gather, nothing but the support. Also what is the difference in "gold" support and anything else. Would some questions go unanswered if you had other than gold support?

About the second output, you just setup windows and graphic card for it.
And then you enable the external monitor option in virtual dj.
Home editition is limited version of virtual dj you'll need the full version.

Thanks for your advise apopsis. I suppose I will have to try the trial version out! I have a laptop system and a rack mounted pc. The rack mounted pc uses a ATI Radeon X9200 video card. Just not sure if it supports 3 video outs. I have a ticket in to tech support but no response yet. Is the trial version a full version. Meaning ther pro edition. It probably is but just curious:)

Trial has some limitations for security reasons (eg. support only one soundcard)

I have downloaded the trial version and so far it rocks. Still trying to learn the browser. I am having trouble playing karaoke. Maybe doing something wrong here but changed the extension to assc. .zip for karaoke but when I drag file in turntable it just says error. Any ideas?

it says version 3.4. I have gone into the config and extensions. I clicked add put in zip for the extension and karaoke/cdg decoder. When I drag a file up to the turntable the video screen comes up but error also shows up in the box above the table. I must not have something set right?
