My setup-ASUS-A7V133 mother board
AMD-ATHLON 1.4 G
256 mb sdram
diamond sound MX400 3d sound card
WIN 98SE DirectX 8.1
External
Newmark DM 1100x mixer
2X Technics SL-1200MK2
I have front & rear channels to line1 & 2 (mixer)
& the 1200s to phono 1 & 2,
booth/zone L/R to line in (sound card) to record
my problem is the 3d sound card
if 3d is selected when playing ether desk and cueing
the other I can faintly hear the other track as an echo
in both headphones and speakers & the quality
is crap, so if I CROSS from vinal to atomix, well you
just can't do it the difference between the two is
crystal to crap.
although if I have 3d not selected (not splitting front & rear) or I use another 'app' (real jukebox) vinal to 'app'
its ok (mixable).
I have 4 speakers selected for card
propertes, in multimedia and have selected
quadraphonic speakers)

what is the best sound card to use?
Is creative's Audigy with 'live drive'

What you want, is a card you don't have to run in 3D mode to get two stereo outputs.
Either get two similiar cards that will work together (and thus creating two wave devices) or get a true multi-channel card such as those being put out by ego sys, midiman, etc etc
As far as recording for burning, my solution to these issues is hardware, I have both a MD deck and a CD-R deck (standalone, audio only CD recorder)... Using the minidisc deck, I can record the mix as it happens. I can then listen to it again, and at track transition points I can add track seperations. Then, I play though it again and record it to CD from the MD's digital out, into the CD deck's digital IN. It transfers the track points also... This is all done with Sony equiptment.
But in reality, I dont bother recording much...

for good recording software, look for MP3Butcher. I dont have the link but you can find it using search engine or go to http://hitsquad.com
This is a very nice software. It allows you to cut mp3 into pieces (butcher!!! duhhhh), and you can also record sound from your soundcard to mp3 format (sweet!!!)
Make sure you have an audio calbe connect from the mixer to Line-In line of the computer

I totally recommend going out and buying a 16-bit sound card.
I had a similar problem with a 3d card and figured...to hell with it...solved problem right away.
