Using latest free download as a home user,I use a laptop a usb mixing desk which is connected to my speakers.
It has stopped working and says I need a licence,anything I can do,I do not want to disconnect my set up as I use that primarily for a karaoke set up

It should tell you why you need a license.
From what you've said my guess is an analog mixer license - but with no more information its impossible to say.
You should be able to initiate a purchase from within the software to ensure you get the correct license.

You say it's a "USB mixing desk", but what is it exactly (make and model)?
If it's actually a DJ controller then that'll be why VDJ requires a license. Also if you've configured the VDJ sound setup in a certain way, VDJ will expect you to have a license.
There are plenty of people using VDJ at home who have licenses - even the full $299 Pro license.

used some feature that require license then perhaps..
Such as removing video logo, exporting stems or similar ..
