On this subject...... if a custom or controller button is used (mapped) to switch between pre and post live, is the sound affected in any way (i.e. pops, clicks, level changes)?

Many thanks Virtual DJ team.. Been a long time waiting for this!

If the effect is active and the volume is not 100% it could cause a small click when switching.
If you switch while no effect is active there shouldn't be any glitch at all.

Great to see this feature added!
Ditto Thanks
p.s. is it either all on or all off or can it be set for individual decks and/or effects? (Haven't had a chance to play around with it yet...)

Looks like this is not working on SZ :(
...Unless I'm missing something. PostFader Setting is ON but result is still pre-fader.

@938MyDJ
only works on internal mixer so far doesn't SZ use external mixer?

Correct, the SZ is an external mixer.

Won't work on my SZ with vdj or serato due to the external hw mixer, works with my SX2 & NS7II tho.

Perhaps a workaround could be achieved? The echo effect could have an "echo out" function, when engaged it could automatically bring down the internal channel fader whilst enabled.

Is there a way to make the echo effect stay in time with the bpm/beatgrids? Sometimes when I activate the echo the delay is either too fast or too slow.

That sounds like your grid is wrong then. I've never really had a problem with the echo not being in time.

I've probably not explained what's happening clearly. My beatgrids, well most of them anyway, are fine. I'm talking about adjusting the length of the echo. E.g 1 bit, 2 bit etc. I play different genres with varying bpm's and find it difficult to judge what the length should be set at as it varies with the different bpm's. I think I'm talking about matching the length of the echo to the Bpm so that the echo is in time with the song. Hope this makes a bit more sense!

The native echo effect's length is set in number of beats, so if it's set at 1 beat, it will be 1 beat for every song you load, no matter which bpm.

I think it's still quite clunky operating several FX at the same time when using a controller/software, which is what's needed to achieve something that's interesting. Look at the DJM900 for example and it's quite easy to layer FX due to having two sets available with separate controls.
Something which I think Serato has tapped into (I may be wrong) is FX sets, combining two standard FX into one, therefore creating a more vibrant/interesting effect with the ease of controlling just one, and this becomes alot more interesting with post fader FX. For example you could have Echo Pitch, working in the same way as the Echo with the addition of pitch (up or down) being applied as you increase the amount of echo, in application you could easily achieve an echo out brake effect.
As incorrect beatgrids can coexist with correct BPMs, it may be an idea to tie effects to the local BPM and have them activate the moment they're enaged, ignoring the beatgrid and using the DJs timing, this is a better situation than trying to fix beatgrids in a live scenario.
The request for local BPM detection has been made many times over, as many DJs now use transition tools and rollercoaster edits, it would make sense to have a local BPM display for beatmixing purposes, as well as for FX application. The software is only as good as the readings and when they're off things fall apart (admittedly to varying degrees dependent on how the DJ works), but still the information should be live, given we're in a live performance scenario.

I feel the other way I think vdj's method offers more flexibility,
If you'd like I can write plugins that when called can send whatever effect you want to slots 1 2 and 3 [4 5 and 6 if you want] just ask.

DDJ-SZ is using an external mixer setup. Also it does NOT have FX return via USB interface (as S9 for example). Therefore POST FX are not possible with it.
You can "hack" it to work with post-fader effects, but you will have to sacrifice channels 3 & 4 completely.
If you are using strictly 2 decks and you are interested in "hacking" it to use post-fader effects let me know.
I can give you a guide on how to do it. At least just for fun! :)

PS:
On the other hand, DDJ-RZ can be used in both "External/Hardware" and "Internal/Software" mixer mode.
Therefore it is possible to use post fader effects with it. So perhaps you can sell your SZ and get a RZ instead ;)

I am about to ask you to send instructions by PM but I think with a lot of SZ users here, some if not all would love to see how this works.
Thanks in advance!
