Some tips to improve the HP
Consider replacing the HDD with a SSD Sold State Drive and the Memory on your HP should be at least 8GB
If you get the SSD and the RAM upgrade, reinstall Windows (maybe you can get Windows 10 for free), your performance should improve.
Apply any HP patches and updates (bios, drivers and firmware) . Apply your controller firmware updates (if any)
