话题: Audio stutter- Crash after upgrade

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Working on a DJRak system for a DJ friend. System has XP pro with no other programs installed. ( no internet ever) 2.8Ghz single core CPU with 2 gigs PC-3200 (400Mhz FSB) Ram, 1 80 gig HD and 1 500 Gig HD. He had been running version 5 (with only 1Gig Ram) and had no issues but after upgrading to version 7 he explains that the software will intermittently stutter, lockup or crash completely. I installed the 2 1 gig sticks of Ram but that did not help. I noticed, prior and post ram installation, that the CPU meter would peg on loading any track whether a song was playing or not but was told that the problem pops up at any time during performance, not just on load. I've tried different settings regarding latency/quality in Config but it still remains.
Thoughts?

This could be because he is resizing/maximising the skin (User interface.) Depending on the graphics card's 2D capabilities, this may lead to much higher CPU usage. He should either use the skin at its correct native size or preferably download and use a skin that exactly matches the computer's screen resolution: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/skins.html

Also, make sure that the computer has been optimised for DJ performance - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

This might explain the CPU usage but not the stutter and crash problem. The only thing was to upgrade from 5 to version 7. The RAM upgrade was my idea as you can never have too much RAM.

If it only happens every so often, then it could be a CPU intensive background process on the computer that's starting at a scheduled time. In particular, anti-virus software is often scheduled by default to perform a scan in the early hours of the morning, which of course for a DJ may still be when you're performing at a gig. Check the anti-virus software settings and the scheduled tasks in Windows to ensure that no background tasks will be started to during gig hours.

Also, as already advised above, make sure that the computer has been optimised for DJ performance - See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Performance%20Issues.html

No AV software at all. This is strictly an XP pro machine with nothing on it but VDJ-7. Never touches internet and no fluff programs added. Strictly music.
