Is there a decent mapping available for Vestax Spin? I keep reading that VDJ supports it "Natively" but I don't understand the mapping structure well enough to make tweaks. Would love to get close to it with a decent map. Right now I'm mapped to a Typhoon and there are issues.

The MIDI specification of both devices is identical. Unfortunately, because the Spin was never originally intended for use with other software, some Spins and Typhoons share the same hardware ID. Because the Typhoon is the official supported VirtualDJ device (Ships with LE included), it has priority over the Spin.
However, Spin will work with the Typhoon mapping. Just a few knobs and buttons won't perform the expected functions (They perform the function as labelled on the Typhoon.) You can easily change this via CONFIG -> Mappers if you wish: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/How%20do%20I%20change%20the%20mapping%20for%20a%20button.html
You can even copy the mappings from the Typhoon. Simply click on the button to the right of the drop-down list in CONFIG -> Mappers and untick the option to only show connected devices. Now you can select the Typhoon in the drop-down list, then copy and paste the appropriate mappings to the Spin.

I have the map for the Vestax Spin, but when I select it, it isn't applied and the controller still isn't responsive. How can I activate the map?

Mappers are not available to unlicensed users. The mapping that you have is most likely out-of-date and/or incorrect.
Also, this controller is natively supported in the latest VirtualDJ Pro, so installing a mapper is not necessary (Although depending on its firmware it may show as a Typhoon instead of Spin - Please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Spin.html )
Please delete any mappers you have installed and then try it with the latest Home FREE: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html

I tried it with the latest edition. When plugged it, VDJ doesn't recognize the hardware. The only way I can see the mapper for the spin is if i uncheck "show only connected devices," and when I select the mapper, the hardware doesn't respond correctly. How do I fix this?
