I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on using the sync button? I was reading a random forum the other day and there were arguments for and against.
Does anyone use it?
I personally never used it but finding more and more that I am if I am doing something on the fly. Am I becoming lazy I don't know. I only ever done basic beatmatching when I used CD but I have to say enjoying using the function to create something different during a mix.
What's your opinions?

i think the sycn button is a HOT FEATURE, it does allow for more creative mixing since you dont have to worry much about matching them, and you can focus more on the crowd and also to be more complex with mixing then your standar move the fader slowly or cut a song in. also the sync button is HOT if you actually know how to mix MEANING you should know how to mix with out it cause the sync button is not always accurate there for actual beat matching skillz are IMPERATIVE as well as knowing when to mix timing is everything. my only objection to this feature is the fact that to many people just used it and call them selfs DJ but they have no clue what the ***** THEY ARE DOING and they never learn so it down grades djing for everyone because now tom dick and harry can do it to at a press of a button and thats not right!! i herd tons of wack ass wanna be djs make use of it and its just not cool! gives djs with laptops a bad REP. anyhow thats just how i feel0

That's what puts me off using it. Wannabe DJs are using it and sounding....well you know. I just started back DJing again in bars and the DJs there are still using CDs and seen me using the sync button. He said great another digital DJ. He did take notice tho that the dancefloor was packed. Later on he was asking what remix was that you played etc. I just said that digital DJing on the fly mate packed my gear up and left.
I am to young for vynal and started off DJing with CDs 8 years ago. I think everyone needs to move with the times and think I will be using the sync button more and more.

yea i hear, well i didnt start off with Vinyl, i actually learn by using Cds but now a days i can also spin on vinyl. they are different feels. and i agree with you on the fact that we have to adpat to the new technology being made, however that does not mean that the art of mixing should change cause there is a technical aspect to follow in order to achieve a great mix instead of just pressing sync and mixing. if everyone is a dj then its bad for the job market. i seen to amny guys get gigs for 50 bucks and they dont have a clue as to what they are doing they just blast music and THINK THEY r mmixing while the pros have to lower there prices to compete. and well dj gear is $$$$$ and many of the sync buttun users dotn even own gear just there laptops hooked up to speakers. iam down with this new digital ear but i also feel that djin is a hands on thing not just clicking on VDJ or any software that offers sync. to be a dj a good dj it is my firm believe that you must know how to actually mix with out the sync.

I never use, however i i think its very important not to rely on it completely you need to train your ear, sometimes the sync button is not totally on and you may have to tweak the timing a bit with the jog wheels.

The sync button is great.. thumbs up.. no comparison
Its an option.. .use it or not.. that is entirely up to you
but it does have its advantages.. despite those advantages... allowing more djs in the game.. lol (whether they are good or not)
The same can be said of cue points... all in all it comes down to the person who uses the options for maximum benefit.
To each is own....
Do you know how many persons use VDJ???? Millions... Why guess there is a great feature in it for everyone

We all embrace technology; turntables was new when it came out, so was CDs. The sync button and cue points was made to make our lives easier. Don't hate on it because some young DJ is using it too much. The point is the sync button doesn't always work so if a DJ think he can just hit the sync button for every song, he will be a pretty bad DJ. To be a successful DJ, you have to learn how to beat match and play it by ear. Being a DJ is not easy, the sync button does make it a little easier but it certainly will not make you a superstar DJ.

There's so much more to this art-form and business than just a sync button, plus, there are many instances where the sync button will not help you and send you right into a train-wreck if you're not careful.
I build a few drastic transitions approximately once a month, to help me change the pace in the club in a hurry. I'll make a down tempo trans to take me from 130bpm to 90bpm for example. When VDJ analyzes it, it recognizes the beginning of the track and labels it at 130bpm. There is no help from the sync button at the end of the track when you are trying to match the slower beat, this is the time when you have to use your ears.
As for the guys who "say" they don't use it, they've used it. It's a great tool that will save you time and allows you to interact with the crowd more, in turn, making you a better DJ. A DJ is also an entertainer, so anybody who can spit on the mic, mix tracks, and take customer requests should be thankful for products like VDJ and the sync button. It can make you into a hero when your timeline gets tight!
Keep rocking the crowd!

i turned my sync button into a stop button. i felt that using sync was cheating and sometimes it syncd out of time. not often but it still caused problems on the odd occasion. i felt a stop button was of more use to me than a sync.
it is usefull in some instances but ive learned good timing and better jog skills without it.
i just cue up and use the pitch controls, cue button and jogwheels to sync my tracks then all i have to do is hit play.
each to their own i suppose.

Some DJs think that using anything that was not on the original turntable or with the turntable is cheating. If that is the case then you should not be using a midi controller, cue points, effects, sync button, a computer. Why not just get some crates of records, 2 turntables and rock it like that. I am sure you won't because you want to make your DJ job easier but you pick and choose what is acceptable to use, then you say everything else is cheating. The only way you could be cheating is if you take someone else's mix and play it in a live party. If you are the one pressing the sync button, watching the waveform on the computer etc then you are a smart DJ who uses technology to make you life easier. Just like any other industry; I am sure most DJs who put down other DJs who use midi technology has automatic cars with power steering, I am sure they have Ipods and other technology. Do they think that driving a automatic car is cheating? Of course they don't because they have tunnel vision. I say don't worry about what someone else is doing, just worry about yourself.

I think you misunderstood the topic at hand NO body has said that technology is not good. we simply or matter fact i am just saying that there is nothin wrong with the sync button. HOWEVER i think that everyone should have DECENT CORRECT DJ SKILLZ (BEAT MATCHING, MUSIC STRUCTURE, MUSIC THEORY) thats all im saying thats what makes up a DJ instead of a HUMAN JUKE BOX which is pretty much what some people do and it does affect the proffesionals. i really find it hard if you dissagree with me

I agree you should be able to beatmatch etc without technology. That's what puts me off using the sync button ppl assume you can't and your cheating.
The topic was aimed at ppl who do have the skill and did they use the function.
Clearly everyone feels it's a good function as long as you have the skills to back it up?
Thanks for the input

I personally believe that both sides of the argument can be seen as correct, but I feel like the sync button is a great feature of VDJ because it saves time matching the beats. In order to use it successfully in a mix, you cant do it without knowing the structure of music and music theory, knowing that throwing in a song whenever you feel like it is simply not possible, it just helps the beginner dj learn about what beat matching is and helps the more advanced dj worry about other things in a digital mix, such as effects, samples, etc.
Exactly,
You need to know about beat matching in order to use the sync button successfully.
Just my opinion,
Mack

I normal mixing I don't use the sync button, but if I am doing a quick transition or the song I am playing is kinda short, then yes, I will use the sync button to match the songs just because of time constraints. It is a great feature for quick mixing but as far as using it all the time....I'll pass thanks.

Love your sync button embrace it and get to know it well who cares about sync button Either u you use iit or don't. It is up to the person. Just because it's there does not force you to use it. So let's close this topics because it's so lame and move on to the next one. Tools are just tools until you use them

then what are they once you do use them?????
apart from used tools, which in theory are only worth half the value.. lol.
