question #1 - what age group, or groups, are you playing for?
question#2 - what part of the world are you playing in?
question #3 - are there alot of people that know how to dance the various kinds of country dancing - two-step, half-step, three-step, east coast swing, west coast swing, jitterbug, or do they just line dance to everything?

i can paste my VDJ history in here for the last 2 years, or type in my music log books for the last few years, but what i play might not be what works where you are or with the demographic you're playing for. and if you're crowd doesnt know how to dance to what you're playing then it wont matter much either way.

this is a sample night from back in march of last year, even including the "other stuff" that our crowd likes, and its a weird crowd sometimes:
(you'll have to scroll down to the bottom and back up again, didnt have time to reverse it, sorry)

30 and up - dont forget to throw in a decent amount of classic country: gary stewart, merle haggard, waylon jennings, etc., for ones past 30 and especially for the die-hard country fans. i would imagine they're asking for "Texas Country" as well: pat green, kevin fowler, randy rogers band, cross canadian ragweed, and others.

there might still be some country dance resources online that list what type dances fit country songs (at least there were a back when i started working here) and do ALOT of research with the customers. what they ask for might surprise you sometimes. have them write it down to give you a reference, but also listen before you play. not all of what they want are gonna be bar songs as opposed to radio songs. "sittin' around the radio" or "drivin' in the truck" music can kill your dance floor and perception is everything - if customers walk in and the floor isn't doin much they might have second thoughts. but on the other hand if they're enjoying the music, and having a good time, they'll stay and drink till they hear what they want to actually dance to. took me a little while to learn that one myself, but i got there.
