I have a Dell PIII 1GZ 512RAM running VJ Home with an AC Hum problem when the laptop is plugged into a grounded AC outlet. The hum disapperars when running on battery. Is the hum problem normal with laptops? Is there a solution to eliminate the hum? I know the laptop is a dinosar but I am just getting started. Thanks

There may be a short within the adapter... That actually sounds like it is not grounding properly. I would try getting a new adapter.

just get the 3 prong to 2 prong adapter for the power cord. if you only have a 2 prong i would look @ the other options.

I had the same problem and the 3 to 2 prong converter worked. They are also very cheap.

Get Ground Loop Isolators from Radio Shack...best thing since sliced bread!

The simple answer IF it was the same as mine, just go into the graphics card power options and select battery mode for the AC.

It might be a ground loop but i find more with Dell's that the AC full performance settings will cause audio interference. Setting them to battery mode with AC plugged fixes the problem. Mine runs very solid. Give it a shot.
