Hi all
I own a PC shop and service and wanted to help those who plan to upgrade or get their first gig machine for audio or video use.
Here is what I recommend:
Intel P35 Chipset based motherboard (Foxconn or MSI)
Intel Core 2 6750 2x2.6Ghz, 4MB cache, 1333Mhz FSB
2 or more GB of ram at 800Mhz (it's VERY cheap these days ;) )
ATI Radeon 2600 PRO or XT with 256MB DDR3
or
NVIDIA 8600GT or 8600GTS with 256MB DDR3
500GB WD
Sound card should be at least some internal cheap Audigy model or External Sound Blaster Live 5.1
You can go cheaper by using 667Mhz ram memory or some slower CPU like Core 2 4400 where you can save some money on the motherboard also using older Intel 965 Chipset. Don't consider 6320 or 6420 CPU's, they are very close with price but can't match with Core 2 6750 model.
ATI Radeon 2600XT is the same speed as NVIDIA 8600GT whilst 8600GTS is the best card you can get. Don't go higher, it's a waste of money if you don't play games;)
Oh, yes, I tried 2600XT card with Bioshock game on 22" TFT Acer on 1600x1050 resolution, all High at running smoothly!
Hope this helps, if you have some questions or want something to add to this list, please do.
Thanks

Good Suggestions Alf, here are my specs that work great.
1. Thermaltake VF1000BWS Black Aluminum Front Panel/ SECC Chassis MicroATX Desktop Computer Case (bigger than a shuttle, smaller than a tower)
2. ASUS M2NPV-VM AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (Thanks Cyder)
3. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor
4. ATI Radeon X 1950 Pro Graphics 256 mb DDR3
5. OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
6. 1 TB SATA drive (vids and music)
7. 1 300 GB hd (IDE) OS and Proggys
1,2,3&5 $600 w/ XP home OEM, and Arctic Silver.
6 I got for $279
Oh and if you have a DVI monitor this MOBO has dual outputs on it and MAY run VDJ flawlessly, dont know cause I couldn't test as I dont have a DVI Monitor.
