What the hell is recursing and why do I have to do this to the new database ands how often? Seems like a pain in the ass to get the 5+ versions to work right. Please help... I am hoping that I am just a dumb ass and it is an easy fix.

Thanks,

HOP

Thanks for the response but I don't think recursing (which I still have no idea what the hell this does) would be regarded as a feature. Please, someone explain in idiot terms...

uhhhhh good question .....

i made the mistake of asking wikipedia .......

now i have ANOTHER one of those permanent white streaks in my hair .......

i'm guessing but i think it's either ... A ) open and close a folder to refresh it , or 2) a state of confusion

Recursing - process that retrieves all the files from the parent folder (where the Recurse is initiated) and all sub folders of that structure

If doing the recurse on a newly added folder that contains sub folders and the Add to Search DB, ID3 Tags, Artist/Title, and Comments are all ENABLED in the Config -> Browser tab, VirtualDJ will build the database entries based on the settings. e.g. ALL VirtualDJ relevant tag info is collected, Artist and Title info is evaluated and collected, Comments are brought into the database and every entry is flagged for the Global Search.

Recurse (prior to V5) was a typical process used to see all the files in a specific folder structure and do searches on that recursed result set of files from that structure. With the NEW always available search database - recursing is not as necessary -- except if you want to do a search within a specific structure and see the results of that recursed sub set in comparison to your entire collection ( the dividing line as explained at the top of page 16 in the User Manual)

Thank you for the response... I have not done anything with my database before 5.0 versions... it just worked. 5 versions seems to place the database on my external hard drive which may be the problem??

I haven't upgraded yet. I don't get it either. Was it impossible to have a search for database in v5? Why have the system learn instead of be taught?

No, that is not the problem. That is by design. The old database storage method did not allow for portability of the external hard drives. With the new design, you can take your hard drive to any V5 system and use it without loosing Cue points, comments, etc. All outlined in manual.

Don't understand "Was it impossible to have a search for database in v5?" < what do you mean ?

And "Why have the system learn instead of be taught?" --< It does learn, provided the settings are correctly set you don't have to 'recurse' to get the system to read an entire structure. Just browser through every folder using the left navigation panel and at you click through the folders it will learn. However, just like people - if you wait for someone to learn on their own it will take longer than if you teach them what you want them to know.
