Topic: My laptop took a dump this weekend

Ugh. I have noticed for the past two weeks my laptop hasn't been "right". Very strange performance. It would lock up on me occasionally (but not during VDJ). At times I would turn on the power and it wouldn't turn on. I thought it was the HD because I started seeing disk errors in my system log. Ok... great excuse to upgrade to that 250GB I was eyeballing. ;)

New HD... same problems. Last night VDJ locked up on my six times (twice during Soulja Boy). Half the time I turn on the laptop it doesn't post. I got a few "no operating system found" errors and a disk controller error. Obviously all of this isn't VDJs fault, more a vent than anything else because VDJ has been pretty reliable for me overall.

Sounds like a system board issue because I probably have a faulty SATA controller. Bleh. Time to put that 3yr next business day onsite warranty to work. Hopefully I get this fixed before next Thursday's gig. I had to DJ with DVDs today and using DVDs reminded me how much it sucks to not have VDJ. ;)

While I like this HP nw9440 for performance... I think I received a lemon. I already had the LCD screen replaced because of a flicker it was producing. Now it looks like I need a system board. Since I already upgraded the HD... now all I need to do is swap out the memory and i'll have all new internals. LOL

it does indeed sound like a dieing motherboard or power supply

i see alot of these , with the kids laptops at my work

see whatcha get fer playin' soulja boy ???

seriously though make 'em do the work and it sounds like everything under the hood will be new , replacing the lemon parts .... my lappy is an HP also ,there phone and chat support are really good ... still unfortunately i don't think you have sufficient turnaround time to get it back for your gig :(

You should test first you ram modules using Goldmem software, than try to do a Low Level format of your hard disk (backup first!).

Well I am back up and running. Thank god for next day on-site service. :-) They overnighted me the system board and a tech came out the next day to my house to install.

Got a new system board and things are running much better. Probably had a bad system board. No more disk errors appearing in my event log.

Originally I thought it may have been my HD... but after two new HDs and plenty of formats problem persisted. I also did memory test and that seemed fine as well.

It's nice to have a nice stable VDJ once again. ;)

pretty good service from those guys ....
