when i was a kid my dad had a vintage Sansui 9090 collecting dust. i hooked that thing up in my mind and it changed the way i listen to music forever.
i blew a channel and took it for repairs. but the repair dude took ages to repair it. until one day i realized he was takin me for being a kid coz he'd been renting it to this club.
fast forward to today. i want a good amp to drive my speakers pioneer HPM-100 http://www.whitebuckpublishing.com/treasure/hpm-100.htm they are 100W max.
i currently have a marantz 2220B http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/2220b.html its a little amp 20W RMS but it can hit real hard. seriously my sound knocks hard. i dont have too much respect for it coz its 20W per channel and i got it for $12.
now there's a friend of mine who started djing with some really shitty setup. nothing special. my sound right now is way better that what he started with doing his mobile gigs. now he has real mobile dj setups. i admire him coz he started djing with his shitty HOME ENTERTAINMENT CENTER but now anything and everything we can think of. pioneer cdjs 800s and even bought his dj business van. he's doing well. and i respect his hustle.
-----------------------------
i like my home sound to knock hard. and i have great respect for that old vintage shit. can i get one of those vintage amps from a pawn shop and it pushes me for a while even during gigs?
what minimum amp should i be looking for?
amps these days i bet have changed so i think modern receivers or power amps can take out vintage amps...
if you had a dream set up what would you go for....
is there a standard amp that is classic like the way the technics 1200's have made a name for themselves as the industry standard tt...
how do powered speakers perform....
2 days ago i went to some pawn shop and some dude had just dropped some yamaha speakers rated 500RMS, 1000MAX. they werent sub woofers....
i want to replace my marantz receiver despite it being able to entertain the whole street... should i get a fisher CA-800 like this one for $59

from a local shop.
i saw a Crown power amp there too but i cant remember the model number. but it was being sold for $300. but im not ready for that price range.
for someone that plays hiphop whats the best way to go... intergrated or seperate.... i dont care much for the radio part. i just want some raw power.
whats the minimum speaker wattage i should go for if i were to ever get a gig at a bar....
one time i did a gig for a friend of mine coz he had too many gigs on the same day and i looked at his rack and it had 2 amps. and some other "things" on the rack that seemed to seperate the signal to the amps. what was that.... lol
so someone help me understand amplifiers and their set ups.

I tell you this... The speakers you saw at the pawn were Yamaha Club Series speakers. Very Good. If you get those, dude, your going to have to get in to the big boy amps. Those little recievers your getting in to gotta go.

External amps aren't the recipe for best quality. Though if you haven't been spoiled with good sound then guess it doesn't matter :-)
btw when looking to respect a speaker you want to look at dB and frequency range w/ attenuation not how much power it takes off the grid.
