Topic: Adding xternal drives to v 5.0 after first install

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I've been reading that v 5 will allow databses to apply to multiple xternal drives... Here's my scenario:
I have VDJ 5 on my rack pc w/ music on racks hd. There are gigs where I will use a laptop with xternal drive...Rather than re-scan the xternal which is a duplicate library, can I simply copy the .xml file on the root (C) drive of the rack pc to the xterrnal drive and amend the ..xml file so that it points to F:/MP3's rather than c/:

I've done this with the old mp3 database file under 4.3...

Thanks

Be carefully with this, yes it is possible and better than 4.x, but as database is splited now you need to check some things first.
Tell me exactly what partitions/drives you have on both disks and the paths of the music (on both) and i will suggest you.

Typically I may have my library on the C drive of the laptop C;?Mp3's......All my back up drives are identical libraries. If I plugged the xternal drive; it would have the library under f:/MP3's.

As I understand it, if I plug this drive (xternal) prior to first time use.....VDJ 5 will scan both C and F drives, read the mp3 database file from 4.3 then essentially create 2 new databases; one for C and F?

The reason I ask is that at one point your C drive especially on a laptop may full up at which point you'd switch to an xternal, how do you import the database for that xternal drive.

Thanks

Look there is no more import / export / copy & paste stuff. Install V5 on your Laptop and let it do it's thing. On your gig machines with the rack mount and externals do the same make sure everything is hooked up and install V5 and let it do it's thing. NOW, as you plug and unplug the externals to any machine including the laptop then everything will be recognized by V5 and usable.

As to your question about Filling up a drive -- you have to better manage this and catch that before it happens. Also, I would highly recommend not storing anything but may a few back up files ( couple 100 ) that would get you through a gig if an external drive should go down. But to have such a large number of files on the C: partition is just asking for trouble.
