I have a mobile DJ Karaoke service and am currently using 28" TV monitors that I have in cases on wheels. I am thinking of getting video projectors and could use some advice. Are video projectors practical? I will probably have to buy a screen. Are screens practical for mobile DJ’s? I may have problems in some circumstances with wind blowing the screen around. What kind of projector do you recommend?

I get requests for projectors and screens for slideshows at certain Weddings, I orgionally was going to use a projector and screen setup.
I ended up deciding against it and going with a 32" LCD TV screen.
Reason? Space:price ratio
With using a 32" LCD flat-panel; I can Contain everything to My 8' table and people can still see the nice crisp pictures (depending on the files from the client) on the TV screen. Plus it's nice and bright - moreso than most similarily priced projectors.
With a Projector & screen I would have needed at least 6 feet of spce between the porjector and the screen to get a viewable image, Granted it would be MUCH bigger and people might not have to creep up but it's a trade -off i guess.
Incidently this is the model I bought:

A good Projector is about 1000.00, plus screen 120-300.00
It made more sense for me to use a LCD, not a projector.
For Karaoke - might be different - but a mobile karaoke setup isn;t all that much different from a Mobile DJ set-up.

Thanks for the advice.
Figuring out how to place the screen in reference to the projector could be very challenging, if not impossible in some cases.
Perhaps I should just keep my existing TV's, and get a cheaper projector, (it would only work at night or indoors in a dimly lighted room). I agree that projectors may be impractical in many, if not most circumstances.
When I do parties that are not karaoke I usually play extreme sports videos, such as people surfing humungous waves, skiers skiing down cliffs, skateboarders… and everybody loves it.

BTW - I charge 100.00 extra for the privlage of me suppling the screen.

Screens are a big challenge you need distance. Also placement is a problem, I have a screen that I purchased cheap from ebay and a use projector.

I have been searching through the forum for projector and came across some interesting post.
I think I will go with rear projection. It seems that it will be easier and brighter. The picture may not be as crisp, but it is a trade off I am willing to make. I have never used this so I hope it works ok.
