Before you read..i've encoded, downloaded, fixed, re-encoded, ripped, etc..the proper way and also compared with PC..i did my research and did a side by side with Mac and Pc. I don't mean to be rude but i have had virtual vinyl for a good amount of time and there are major problems that need to be fixed. Certain vob files are jittery and contain artifacts, artifacts that are blocky and glitchy, this has been posted many of times. Videos tend to freeze when scrolling. And as far as de-interlacing, it might solve the problem but you shouldnt have to do it..vob's work fine with PC..why not MAC??. I have a pretty suped up Mac with 2g of mem and 256 video card..i used my brothers toshiba with pretty decent specs and it works better than my MAC..that put me to shame..lol..Certain vob's don't play, why, i don;t know.. Plug-ins?..what happened?..where are they?..My slideshow doesnt even work so i cant post pictures when i do weddings...Search Database could be better, but i rather have my videos work first. Plain and simple, the mac version is not up with pc's version..we need updates, fixes, whatever..i boiught the program and im not using it because it doesnt work, im not confident with it....So..So..can i get some feedback..thanxx

I think the dev.team is well aware that the MAC version is not as good as the PC version.
So, an upgrade is being worked on and should be released in the near future.
When it comes to plug-ins and skins etc, this is something that is made by the users and not dev.team. So, it's up to us to actually make the stuff we want.
A MAC SDK is soon being release for everyone (who knows how) to use. I think that exsisting plug-ins will be ported at the same time as well.

it seems almost like they just said "ah, this wasn't such a good idea" and forgot about it all together.. we haven't had any beta updates at all.. there' till major issues like the favorite folders not being able to be removed, the bpm, the video being choppy, remote devices not being supported. and a host of other quirks that were in the initial release and have never been addressed.

I'd like a word from the developers to let us know that they're still on it.. I'm out here pushing the software on clubs and other DJ's, I get them to switch, and then they're all running to all of the DJ sites posting bad stuff about the software, because atomix once again has gone silent with no updates..

customers feel stranded once again... this isn't PCDJ, give us an idea of what's going on.

I've gotten that feeling as well.

I don't believe it to be the case, as norway has just stated that it's not, but I've just found myself resigning to the fact that I'm probably gonna have to keep using the windows version of Numark Cue on my Mac probably until the release of Leopard because of how reportedly dependent VDJ/Cue will be on Leopard's Core graphics technologies.

I don't know if that is in fact really the case or the main reason for the hold up, but I wish we'd see (or at least hear) more on the Mac side.

I guess we'll all have to see what happens in the next version of fix release. The thing that confuses me the most is the split of users on these forums. Some of us report that the mac versions is, and i quote "perfect" and some of us others have very bad experience with it when mixing videos compared to the PC version.

The definition of "perfect" is relative, I guess.

I'm not nearly the perfectionist you are anewsome, but it's not good enough for me at this point, so I can't imagine that it would be worth your time. =P

For me, the lack of plug-ins keeps me on the windows version. However, I have just noticed a post by sky that is supposedly a simple process to get the windows plug-ins to work on the Mac side.

I'll have to test the Mac version out once again as soon as I get a chance.

Maybe it is perfect for some people as it fits their needs not for me though.

1.) Artist names not showing in browser.
2.) Slower loading of tracks.
3.) Jog control (same with PC and I'm not going to get into it as I feel liked a broken record).
4.) I can't edit the variables when assigning midi controls, always greyed out.
5.) Lack of some fx (mainly beat repeat) : (
6.) System sometimes crashes when trying to assign midi, and sometimes for no reason at all.
7.) Some of the items in midi are switched around i.e. "left deck" in midi control panel actually does stuff to the right deck ect.
8.) Damn window controls on the right instead of left, gets me every time. I'll get over it though. ; )

I actually really want to just dump VDJ and switch to traktor but I like the programme to much. Its like the abusive girlfriend thats just too damn hot to leave.

And if I hear the words "We're working on this its coming soon" once more from the Dev team I think I'll actually scream!

Get it together Atomix, for me. Please.

I'll love you forever if you do. ; )

I would love to vent on this thread what I 'really' thought about this software (well the Mac side). I'll keep it kind and short because this is the most touchy feely forum that I participate in and I don't want to look like an ahole.

Its unacceptable that I have to run Bootcamp and XP to get VIDEOS to work. I've spent $3,000 on a 17" Macbook Pro, $500 on Virtual Vinyl, $300 on Total Control, and countless $$$ on music videos... I can't use any of this running Virtual Vinyl and OS X. I have to hack for everything to work.

There should be a closed sticky from the Development Team about the Mac versions problems, current solutions (ie Bootcamp, XP), and some sort of timeline of things that are being worked out. Maybe something along those lines would alleviate some of the frustration and confusion.

Ditto. The lack of updates and the lack of progress reports on Atomix behalf is creating dissension among the ranks.

This one thread has already seen more action than most that have been posted in weeks. It generally feels like a ghostown when I check this page hoping for some good news.

Consistently when I play out, I have other DJ's who've never been exposed to the "music video thing" come up to me and ask what I'm using. Instead of a great "Virtual Salesman" opportunity, I end up only giving a half-hearted endorsement with the caveat of NOT running VDJ on a Mac. This hurts as I've only used Macs for over a decade.

To make things worse, I'm actually thinking of becoming a "reverse switcher" and buying a PC to run VDJ. Either that, or buying some other software that actually works on the Mac.

As I read this I feel a nasty rumble in my stomach.(No not lastnights dinner) I just bought my Mac last week and was ready to by VDJ. I have been for months helping my friend get his VDJ to run on his pc and it has worked. I have played around on it and the video mixing has been great! We used my SSL interfaace for the soundcard and no problems there. But I wanted to get my own and plus I spin at clubs and needed to be more mobile. Plus I wanted my own. So I bought my Mac last week! I was ready to drop the doe and get VDJ this week, but I think I will hold off now. I work for Guitar Center, get great deals, like I said I have SSl and it works great on any platform!! I sold 12 Units in 2 months.... to guys still using TURNTABLES. I don't really dig the traktor but it also a fine product. I have alot of love for VDJ!! My friend and I have been up alot of late nights trying to get his to work good and on a home based PC decked out it does...issues with his delta 1010 LT and then getting the right software for video ripping and authoring.I wanted to pitch VDJ (which we sell the cue) But after this I can't! I feel like getting the Mac was a mistake. Hope to see a timeline of when it is gonna be better then the Pc version. I guess for now I will have to stick to SSL.

look, the core software works fine... espescially with a dmc-2. there are little buggies in it still, and those will be resolved. The biggest problem, and not just for vdj, but for serato, pcdj, etc... seems to be the huge bugs in the OSX operating system that keep us from effectively using fullscreen video without an overlay which slows everything down.

It's not VDJ's fault, it's apple's. the operating system can't handle video the same way a PC can. open GL has little to do with video mixing, and it is far from stable, so don't everyone start in on that again.

until apple steps up their game, we're gonna' be playing the waiting game. I think video works perfectly until I hook it up to a big screen, then I see the lag and jumpiness. If I switch over to bootcamp, I can rock and roll all night. so it's not the hardware, it's the software.

OSX is the ultimate bloatware, but it's stable bloatware. there are still however many things that need to be fixed.

hopefully they get on it for the next build, so VDJ can make this shit work!

Steve,

I'm curious, what are the problems with using Serato on OSX.

Hopefully leopard will be able to handle video better.

From what I can see, the divide in opinion of the mac software is dependant on your use/demands. I do weddings and parties . I don't use time code or video...yet. The most annoying problem I've had is the crash of VDJ when doing a search for a tune during an event. I hope these things are "cured" before I move forward to other horizons.

lol im sorry to say... ive givin up all together on VDJ. I'm using MegaSeg. It's not because of the bugs...It's because I am using an Ibook G4. VDJ doesn't work to tell on old school machines. (Well G4s anyway... I don't know about G5s) Besides, I am a mobile DJ. I've noticed that people don't really care about how well you mix, but more about the music you play. There have been a couple of parties where I had to mix manually (bring out the old school lessons) but I still got it, and it works great. When I see that VDJ has been cleaned up, then I'll invest in to a NEWER Mac and make the switch. I am staying away from the PC because I have been using MegaSeg and MAC for 7 months now. I turn my computer off maybe once a month and I am able to open it up, start the software, and go to work. Basically saying Macs seem to be more reliable when it comes to these audio and video things.

All software that is new is going to have bugs. You all saw what happened when they released VDJ for Mac at first. From what I was told by someone on here, Mac softare and coding is a little more tedious.

and come one..... Most of the TEAMERS, VIP MEMBERS, MODERATORS, etc ... ARE NOT BEING PAYED to do this. They make the software better, test, and fix problems on there OWN time... So give them a break. Why this is the case? I have no idea. Not to be down playing VDJ .. they do of course have there payed technology specialists and developers...most of there help comes from the Public. They are well-aware of the problems and are working to fix them. And yes I know we have heard this many many times but....

be patient

Just out of curiosity, what version of OSX are you running on an old G4 ibook?

Remember that VDJ doesnt run on Windows 98, and it doesnt run on OSX 10.3

it needs modern core video and audio drivers, so you need to have at least OSX 10.4

As for using MegaSeg, thats like using PCDJ Red.
Sure its probably working alright for you, but it aint really a great app for mixing like a DJ ;)

So I hope to see VDJ be good on mac for you real soon

im using 10.4.10 ...
Honestly, MegaSeg sucks... I hate mixing by ear now a days when we have the technology to have the computer help you out and make it much easier and sound much nicer. With special effects and stuff...

I hope you guys fix it... If you do, Ill give you a big KISS!! .. (well maybe not a kiss..since the team seems like majority are guys) lol

It will be fixed ;) the first ever PC version had lotsa bugs too..

It takes time to develop, and currently the mac version needs work.
In the video department first of all.

Video mixing is new on mac, and is not using the same technology as a PC (directX), so first time threading into MacOSX core video system, from a PC technology maker, there where bound to be initial bugs and errors...

A whole team of developers are fixing it as we speak, and next release should be a positive one for you all ;)
