Topic: Hercules DJ Control MP3 vs Hercules DJ Console MKII

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hello,

I've been thinking of buying a Midi-controller for a while. And as I don't have that much money to spend and would like a solution that provides all necessary basic features for a descent price, I came across the Hercules controllers.

I plan to use it on a laptop (so only one audio-output). I know the MKII would be the way to go, as it has an internal soundcard.
But the difference in price seems very big between the Control and MKII. Is that just because it has that card, or are there other features that are different? The buttons seem to be the same, although the scratchpads are also different. Are these so much better then those on the Control?
And couldn't I use a USB-soundcard to get the extra audio-out so I could pre-listen on the Control? Or is using the soundcard of my laptop as main audio-out not adviceable (delay etc.)?

Thanks in advance

they are the same

except the mk2 has the soundcard and supports tcv as a soundcard

I was told when I was looking to buy a Hercules console, that the mk2 version was better and the latest one. The differences between the 2 is that the mk2 version has a headphone input, so you don't have to use your laptop sound card to preview your next track, a mircophone input and at the back of it has 4 inputs and outputs. It's will worth the increase in cost. I decieded on the mk 2 version. It seem's just right connect to a laptop, if you know what I mean.

true , if you need a soundcard aslo get the mk2

if you just need a contoler get the mp3 control

Uhu, but if the MKII and the Control are virtually the same (only difference is the soundcard), then it might be cheaper to just buy the Control and a 5.1 USB Soundcard (fe the Hercules MUSE POCKET LT 5.1). If Virtual DJ recognizes that as having 2 soundcards, then I can pre-listen and have the same controls as with the MKII.

I surppose you can do that, but the mk2 has it all in, in one nice and neat package.

Go on get a mk2 version, you will glad you did. I am.

Well, that is sort of my question: Why would I be glad to do so?
Is there a difference in latency, differences in the controller (except ofcourse the look), ...? I don't really need the possibility to attach other external sources (cd, timecoded, etc.) as I'm not planning on enlarging the install (being such a cheap ass). I just want the possibility to pre-listen. And I save at least 60-70 € by buying the Control and a Muse Pocket as apposed to the MKII.

Hmmm... didn't even know about this thing.

The only reason I see to get a different sound card than the MKII, would be to improve the sound quality, which I'm not sure if this would. Besides, by the time you buy all the 1/8" jack adapters (worse sound anyway) you might be a lot closer to the MKII in price than you thought. The MKII will also make it a helluva lot easier to properly use headphones to que your tracks.

As said before, the goal wouldn't be to improve the sound quality, but just to make it possible with the Hercules DJ Control MP3 to pre-listen.
I would then hook the controller up to my laptop via USB and the Hercules Muse Portable via another USB-port. I would pre-listen for example via the soundcard of my laptop and the sound would be processed by the Muse. That would be connected to my stereo's AUX-input.

So I think that would work. I just would want to know whether there is a danger for to much delay of a soundcard and if there are any technical differences (next to the soundcard) between the Control and the MKII.

Just buy the MK 2 and then you will have fully licensed software as well.

I faffed about trying different setups but in the end which I got the Mk2 sooner

I think the way you are thinking the Muse will work for both the sound and the preview being a 6 channel (three stereo) sound card. My point is that you will have to use 1/8' jack to rca adapters to connect it. You are going to have some delay with either solution you use, it is unavoidable. It isn't really a big deal because it almost negligible and your brain will adjust to it. I just think it is easier to have an all in one solution.

If the console MP3 doesn't come with the software, then that should seal the deal.

both consoles come with the soft.

personaly as u can see i use the mk2 i love it :)

Just a quick question, are you going to be using it at home, or for mobile discos/parties, or for nightclubs? I guess that's your biggest factor to decide how much quality sound you need. So, I'd go for these:

Home use:
(cheapest way) get a dj control mp3 and the cheap card you mentioned. You could always upgrade later if you want.

Mobile Disco/Parties:
the MKII is pretty good from what I've heard, one unit, everything you need

Nightclub use:
herc dj control mp3 and a maya 44 soundcard (better quality than the herc sound card). And a few quid cheaper than the mkII if you buy them together. Two bits of kit, as opposed to one, but better sound for around the same price.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

I would use it at home, just to play around in my room.

Yes, that was what I was planning to do. But I just wanted to know for sure if:
- there could be problems when using an external USB-soundcard
- if there are any other differences that make the MKII more expensive, next to the soundcard

D'oh, just modified my message, sorry.

But yes, for home use, the mp3 control is fine. But if you take it up as a job, you'll probaly want to buy a better soundcard.

Ok. And the USB-soundcard, does that have to be 5.1 surround? Or would an external USB-soundcard with just 1 extra audio output suffice. I don't need 5.1 as I don't have that kind of set-up and won't need it in the future. For me, just being able to pre-listen to tracks would be all I need (so just 1 audio-output for my headphones and 1 from my laptop for the output of the music to my speakers).

you need one with more than one output

one for preview and one for main
