Hi all!
I am considering to buy Virtual DJ and have started converting most vinyl's to mp3, however I have a hardware issue to deal with first:

On my laptop (Gateway M305CRV) I only have 2 jacks with a SigmaTel Audio sound device: 1 mic in (pink jack) and 1 headphone out (green jack). I would like to put the master output to a mixing panel via the headphone out, but where do I then do the mixing (listening in)??

My questions:
1. Is it possible to change my mic jack (in) to a master jack (out) or to the mixing stereo jack (out) for using VDJ?
2. Is there any other hardware option for my laptop to create a master out, while still using the headphone jack at the same time (for the mixing bit)?

I heard from my friend who is advising me to buy the software that it can be solved via the USB port as well (2.0) with an add-on sound card converter (or similar), however he is not dealing with my hardware problem so it's a wild guess.

Any help is much appreciated! From what I've seen so far, this program is great!

Back to the drawing board.. :(
I'm at a loss: I do not seem to find a 4.1 USB soundcard anywhere. I cannot use VDJ with a 5.1 or 7.1?

I have searched the forum for hours now and it may be my low-budget existence, but does NOBODY work with the software and a soundcard alone? Everyone seems to be purchasing a console and other goodies, but what if I just want to take my laptop to Asia for parties and not carry along an external console? Do I require anything more than the laptop, VDJ and the soundcard?

My specific question: which (low budget) sound cards can purchased for USB, which are not 4.1? For example, there is this Hercules Muse Pocket LT USB (5.1), does it solve my soundcard problem as described above and still offer reasonable sound quality for electronic music?

I hate to spend my hard-earnt bucks on a program that turns out to need hundreds of more euros to actually work with my current hardware capabilities.

Have you tried to get a soundblaster usb?
This is from the canadian web site but tiger direct is world wide I beleive

If you are not useing timecodes this little guy will give enough outputs for a three channel mixer

left deck, right deck, prelisten/sampler.

The sound coming out will be reasonable as well, But at extreme volumes sound quality is splitting hairs

You could also use an Audio Splitter (Y) among with a MiniJacktoJack Convertor for lower cost of course, but i would definetly recommend you to buy an external sound card.

Thank you all for helping out my non-technical self! :)

Obviously the broader range of soundcards opens up new horizons, this should be easy now. Especially as I can now try it in the store before purchase, just take along the laptop.
Of course sound quality remains a questionmark, but I doubt whether I would have any problems with a Soundblaster.

Cheers!
