When You purchased/ installed the software your agreed with the EULA.
Here it is in case you did not read it

Not strange at all, It's a common pratice throughout the software market

Take a look at the terms of use on the last page of the user guide.
You have agreed to those terms as a condition of your purchase.

Still curious as to why anybody would want to sell their licence though.

I know what you're saying PaulRain. But no software can be resold, that goes for Windows, Adobe Photoshop etc... to Virtual DJ.

Its part of international agreements, of intellectual rights.
And as said, its part of the EULA.

The logic for this in the software world, is that you buy the rights to use the software for yourself, and not really the softare. Only your personal rights to use it. This right can not be transferred to someone else.

(btw, I did not make the rules.... ;)

That's why there are used copys of windows all over Ebay!

MicroSoft has shut down any of the sales that were OEM, and asssigned to a particular hardware, but they tend to allow resell of used retail software from what I've seen. Just keep an eye on ebay! They have a guy watching all the software stuff.

Even my other DJ software allows you to transfer the license to a new owner if they accept the terms, but this also includes a transaction fee also.

It isn't unheard of.

I must say too, that most retail packages make the statement that if you don't agree with the terms you must rteturn the product for reimbursment. You going to reimburse this fello? ;)

yeah... well its like you say, its written in the agreement... ;)

Anyways, if he DID sell the software, it would most likely lock up...

And the one buying the software would not be able to register at the forum, not get effects or other downloads, and no updates...

So I would never buy a used version of any software ;)

Sorry if I come off sounding like a jerk, which I am most times. But common, have you been living under a rock? Software licenses cannot be re-sold or transferred.

hi all,
I, onestly, didn't read the thing, I understand that's a common rule for software, but it still seams stupid to me.....I have the right to use a software because I have a licence so, in my opinion, I should have the right to sell it.......as a bar licence for instance (ok maybe is not the right example because in the rest of the world there is no need of licence for bars) anyway...I understand that software house have a lot of problems with cracks and so on.....
Ok no problem
Thank you anyway for your answers

I'm all for honoring the user agreement and the licence is the contract. Period. But not all software has these rules.

A very few don't.

I bought Reason 3 and didn't use it enough, cos I didn't have enough time, so sold it on Ebay. Reason (Propellerheads) allow the transfer of the licence and there is a good market secondhand, with high prices paid. It's all in the licence though and that's what we have to go by. Don't know what the licence says for PCDJ, but I put a question on their forum asking if I could sell it and their support said yes. The only trouble was I put it on Ebay and nobody bid. All that money down the drain. Getting a bit near to the bone I know, but it's the truth. ;-)

PaulRain?....about a bar licence?...Here in Canada (and I expect most other countries that require a licence to run a bar) you can buy the bar, but you do not get the licence when you buy it. You have to buy a licence. In other words when the bar owner sells the bar the licence is not included in the sale.
With VDJ they seel you the software ( the bar) and the licence to run it. If you sell the software (the bar) the licence does not go with it. Whoever you sell it to will have to buy it all over again here at VDJ because they will not have a licence to run it.
They can run it but they won't be legal.
'Nuff said I guess

keep the beat sweet

Am I missing something, or has nobody read the EULA.

Taken from the http://www.virtualdj.com/disclaimer.html page
------
2. OWNERSHIP

The foregoing license gives you limited rights to use the Software.
Atomix and its suppliers retain all right, title and interest, including all copyrights, in and to the Software and all copies thereof. All rights not specifically granted in this EULA, including International Copyrights, are reserved by Atomix and its suppliers.

You may permanently transfer your license to use the software to another party who will be bound by this agreement, provided you do not retain any copies of the software.

------

"Transfer" could be interpreted into sold and/or given away quite easily. Funnily enough, I actually haven't really heard about a company taking anybody to court for buying a "off the shelf" product, and then selling it to someone else, and getting into trouble about it, because think about it, if it could be enforced, all industries would catch on ie: motor vehicle, music, DVDs. Imagine the uproar that would cause. Anyway, I doubt Atomix or any other company will do anything as long as the "transfer" was legit.

My two cents worth.

You have EULA.txt in VDJ folder so you can read it :)

When a bar sells to another person, the license does remain the previous owner's however they have a right to resell that license at anytime. That's a bad comparison to the software industry. A liquor license costs over $40,000 in some areas.

I guess the question of transferring a software license in this thread has been answered! :)
