A while ago i bought a used DMC1, it hasn't all the functionality that i want but so doesn't even the DAC3. So already when i bought the DMC1 i was planning this project and now it's time to start it.
What i'm working on now is a pro controller in a 19", 1U box that will have all the funcionality that those other controllers are missing to controll VDJ 100%. This 19" box will then sit above my other controller and "extend" it, giving me total controll over VDJ. The goal is to remove the needs for extra controllers etc that isn't really designed for VDJ, like Powermate , Shuttlepro and even some smaller MIDI devices used today.
Since i think that others also could be interested in this controller i post this now even that the projects is in it's initial phase.
I'm planning to do 2 different versions, One DAC3 extension box and one DAC2/DMC1 for obvious reasons.
This is my first feature list for the DAC2/DMC1 version.
- USB Device / MIDI controll
- Video X-fader
- Video controll buttons
- Sample buttons
- Sample volume faders
- FX buttons (Can be re-assigned)
- Some extra buttons, user defined.
- LCD Display
So, what do you think, is this interesting ? What features would you like to have in the 2 different versions ?

I posted my disappointment regarding the DAC-3 on the PCDJ message board. I informed Visio that I was disappointed the DAC-3 doesn’t have touch sensitive jog wheels. This is a very important feature in my opinion for giving DJs realistic controlling of mp3s.

I also find it a little strange that the DAC3 doesn't have that. The only reason for it i can think of is that it would make the controller more expensive to build.
For the controller to be able to have touch sensitive jog wheels , the rotary encoder must support it. And the only one on the market that i know about is the one XP10 use. And they cost $50 each (Single unit.) While a cheap standard rotary encoder is from $2 and up.

Touch sensitive jogwheels aren't that important if you don't scratch - They would also be a bit on the small side (The DAC-3 would need to be 4U and have smaller displays to feature jogwheels similar to the XP10.)
The one feature that they did really miss out on though is alphanumeric displays, so that trackname/artist could be displayed and making it possible to browse files directly from the DAC-3.
Apart from that, it is a very good controller though, especially if you are used to a typical dual-CD player setup.
In the future, the Numark D2 Director could make a great alternative to the DAC-3 if it can be hooked up to VDJ, and has the bonus of being able to work as a stand-alone controller too (Without a computer.)

I guess that the need to "extend" the controller for missing hardware features is more for DAC2/DMC1 users than DAC3 ?
