I was thinking of getting new slipmats for my tt's but then I noticed the ones that came with my numark tt500's have logos which say "low noise design". My question is, do the low noise design really make any differance? The pair I wanna buy is $8 on ebay, mainly because it has the "Def Squad" logo on em, so would I just be better off using my low noise slipmats?

all slipmats are designed to produce low noise when being dragged. who would make a 'high noise' slipmat? dont get people who get expensive slipmats with graphics as they will only reduce performance and they will have vinyl on 99% of the time (100% if your doing a TCV set)

That's kinda what I thought about the low noise, I figured they probably put that on there just to boost sales (I learned in my business courses you have to exploit your features, even if it's a standard feature on competitors products). I guess I'll give the new slipmats a try, for $8 I guess it's worth giving them a try;^]

just get regular felt mats and place wax paper under them. I even using the plastic supermarkets bags now and they work great.

In the early 70s it was hard to buy slipmats. I first of all just used the inside sleeve of a record so that I could slipcue. sometimes the plastic ones were ok. I also made my own out of some brown felt that I cut into circles a bit bigger than the record. Around the edge I painted some rubber adhesive like EvoStik, so that it was slightly stiffer and it was easy to grab. That meant I could slip-cue without touching the record.
I used to carry all my gear in a horse and cart, then at the gig I had to connect the amplifier up to the gas and light all the candles in my light show. It was hard in them days.

If these are for you decks in your home, then go for the design you like. For me, and other house djs who don't scratch, slipmats didn't really affect performance too much. I did have 1 or 2 dodgy pairs in my time, but most of them were fine.
