话题: Developing a file manager

Sorry for the double post, but I wasnt sure where to put it, and I need the feedback:

Hi guys, I've gotten somewhat fed up with vdj's ability to organize my library in the way I want it to, so I'm writing a manager allow me to properly catogorize my library and spit out playlists sorted the way I want (by genre, speed etc...) The reason i want to do it that way is because the current method i use (folders) requires me to duplicate tracks to store them under different headings. That gets irritating. Before I whip this up, is there any otehr form of sorting tracks built into vdj that i'm missing?

Here's how i figure ittl work:

Import your vdjlibrary into program. Assign multiple genres/relevant data to the tracks, then have it output a set of catogirzed playlists to the vdj plugin dir for use (since you can search through a playlist like a folder). Each playlist will represent a different "View" of your song library.

What do you guys think?

Blackgold,
I do almost the same. I have an access database with all my songs and their location in my folderstructure. I link (multiple) genre to the files.
I created a little application that could create a folder with shortcuts for each genre. In this case you won't duplicate songs, you only have (multiple) shortcut files which are smaller than 1kB.

Well I Guess thats the way to go for output. Do the relevant file properties show up as well? (artist/bpm etc...) And can you edit the original files in vdj (like bpm changes) through the shortcuts?

All information will show up (only if the original file is analysed), like the original file is in the folder. I don't know if you could edit the files using the shortcut. It might be the case that you have to load the shortcut and then edit the song in the deck. But you could try it easily yourself.

If you can make this playlist program that would be cool, I know how to do this sort of thing manually but lacking any programming knowledge to make an automated tool.

"And can you edit the original files in vdj (like bpm changes) through the shortcuts?" Pretty sure you can, as it's the way most of my songs are organised.

I have all my songs in the original albums, and then take shortcuts of songs I'm likely to play to a folder of the specific genre.

and I'm forever editing BPMs :P

I've created a small app to add in the last modified date of the mp3 into the comments in the VDJ DB, my mp3s are sorted into genre and subgenre folders, that way I can browse a folder and all my latest tracks can appear at the top of the list. If any wants a copy pm me, I'm almost finished with it.
