VirtualDJ skin layouts can currently only be changed through load_skin, which reloads the layout immediately. In a custom skin package containing a separate companion/second-screen window, switching from Essentials to Pro or Performance can leave VDJ spinning or frozen—even when the companion window has been closed.
A cold start directly into the selected package/layout works correctly. The missing capability is a way for a skin to save a target sub-layout for the next VirtualDJ restart without trying to load it immediately.
Could VirtualDJ add either:
1. a VDJScript command to persist a selected skin sub-layout for next launch, or
2. a safe deferred/restart layout-switch command?
This would let skin authors support switching Essentials, Starter, Pro, and Performance cleanly without external helpers or asking users to temporarily select another skin first.
Reproduction: when you use a custom skin package with Essentials/Pro/Performance layouts and a separate companion window; select Pro/Performance layout from the alleady chosen Essentials layout; confirm the switch and VDJ wil crash or remain on the loading circle icon. But Closing VDJ and launch directly into the same package’s Pro/Performance layout works.
