话题: Ask The DJ - Requests not arriving

Hi - I've tried all the methods (ask.the.dj , http://www.virtualdj.com/ask/VinylBurns , tweeting #vinylburns ) of submitting DJ requests, but nothing is arriving in my Ask The DJ folder....

Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

I found that tweets are really really slow to receive, [like 10 minutes]
what are your monitoring options set to?

maybe something to do with VDJ network provider
it took me 45min each to dl both update as well as installer

I've had all methods working before, pretty quick turnaround... this was different.

Ended up just blowing away the settings.xml - instantly solved the problem.

Now I'll spend a week trying to remember the settings that I only discover aren't there, in the middle of a busy mix.... lol

Any chance you kept the old settings.xml (in Trash folder), ? Curious to see what setting could stall downloads.

I have them (and literally everything) backed up forever... Time Machine, Backblaze, second external drive etc....
It's just that I haven't looked at Ask.The.DJ for years, and I've been updating the settings file every now and then for just as long, so going back through many many backups of the settings file, to find one where Ask The DJ works, I'd also be stepping back through all the tweaks I've made to the settings....

Just quicker to start over.

(Plus, it's more like 30 minutes of adjustments, rather than the week I suggested) ;-)

So, while it's working now with the URL, tweets don't seem to be working... any thoughts on that?

You can't have both URL and tweets. It's one of the other. Are you trying to use both?

Last time I checked Twitter (about.a month ago) it was working but was pretty slow.

I remember from years ago, that there was the option to choose one or the other, but now I don’t see anywhere to choose between them.

Where should it be? Ask The DJ setup page? VDJ Options?

If you have a twitter hashtag set in settings then it will only do Twitter.
If you don't have a twitter hashtag set, it will only do ask.the.dj

I'm not asking people for twitter requests, because it's not working....

But, I'm testing it from several twitter accounts... none work.

Update: http://ask.the.dj does seem to be working now (though I'm not convinced it's reliable... and it's definitely very slow to arrive)

On another note... Is there a reason VDJ doesn't use "www.ask.the.dj"?

"www" is the default address format people are familiar with, and it seems to be yet more friction to explain exactly how to enter the URL...

Is there a reason for this?
