I am able to get sound playing through the output of my controller but i'm unable to get any use out of the controller. The program doesn't seem to pick up the actions. My controller is the 4play by AVE. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you open the VDJ 8 config window and select the controllers section, is your controller selected in the top left window?
It may not say "AVE 4play" but as long as it doesn't just say "keyboard" then your controller is being detected.
PS are you really using VDJ 7 on a Mac, or have you posted in the wrong place?
