How about having a Midi track - connected to one or more VSTis, that plays in VDJ

your best bet is to use the rewire function with a daw like ableton, fruity, cubase etc...
that will give you a real step sequencer, and it follows the transport controls of vdj, so play, pause, stop and pitch..
