Hey guys, i bought the hercules rmx and I LOVE IT. It's amazing. Anyway, my friends and i are putting a huge party together and I need some good speakers. I don't want to spend too much money. Any recommendations. I need to have it play throughout a house (so two to four speakers).

After this party do you think you will be expanding or continuing to DJ for other events? What do you mean by "not too much money"? What are you using with the RMX now - your pc speakers?

There are a ton of posts on here comparing different types of speakers.

The first thing to do is decide if you think this is a 1 time event or are you going to make DJ'ing a real part of your life?

If it is a 1-time event I would say look into rentals.

If this is something you are going to make a part of your life my first thing would be to check your local 2nd market i.e craigslist, 2nd hand music shops and so on. there is a huge amount of stereo and PA equipment still in perfectly usable shape available at a good price in the used market in most areas.

When you find something you think might work come back here with model names and prices and ask us if it seems like a decent deal and for our reviews of the particular models that are available too you.

How big is the place you are throwing the party? How many rooms do you have to cover? will sound transmit well between the areas?

Of course I could say go out and drop $2500 on some QSC or JBL self powered speakers and subs but that would just be dumb :)

when i first started i was told that speakers are the tradesmans tools of this job and if you dont invest in these you will pay of it in the long run...

you can save money on the gadgets decks etc in the short term and do a great gig and really rock the place however if you have all the gadgets and shit speakers which people cant hear or you are clipping ur amp every 30 secs you will never be called again...
golden rule buddy you can turn a big system down but you can turn a small system up.. buy the brands that are known jbl etc the amount of money i have wasted on japanses ripoffs breakes my heart honestly when i think about it...

even if you can only affored the smallest jbl kit there get it and do small events for a while there are great fun And you can bulid a great rep from them because some djs get these high opinons of themselves and only do weddings etc meanwhile there is lots of small handy lil gigs which they wont do and these gigs get cash in quickly so u can update ur gear quicker...
invest in a gud PA and it will be your best friend for life honest buddy...

Dry Hire

I like my mackie's. The THA 15inch thump series... The kit's not that bad of a price for two speakers and stands or you could go to one of those web sites and do their play and pay programs if you wanna buy the top
Brands.

Behringer Eurolive B212A.

Those were my startup speakers back in 2008. They made me money, I made over $4000 with those speakers in gigs. Which I used to upgrade to QSC-k12s.

Now, the Behringers will need a sub, which I used to rent, until I was able to afford my own.

I still have these speakers and they are still pumping, they're a good back-up and are great for those weddings that require 2 setups, one for the ceremony and one for the reception.

Buy something you can build on.

Mackies or JBLs are good and affordable speakers. But if your only doing it for one event, your better off just renting.

By renting you would only spend about 150-200.

I would go to your local music store and try out which speakers you prefer and what kind of music your are playing.
