由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Ok I always hear about people shutting it off when playing a gig but at our shows we have the groups put there beats on a flash drive instaed of a CD cause CD's get scratched. Well anyways at lastnights show I plugged in 1 of the guys drives and wouldnt ya know it!! BOOM all kinds of ISH started going off with my anti-virus.............Well the software did its job but I had to shut down and restart my whole laptop.

So ,y question is do I leave it on and deal with whatever gets into my system later, taking the chance that whatever it is might shut everything down or let it run...................I say let it run but I wanna know what ya'll would do cause thats what your here for, lol!! Also this is the first time I've ever had to restart my laptop to get rid of whatever it was in over 2 years..........

Thanks for your time

ON .... always on... at least with my laptop i dont have any problems.... im using avast home free antivirus... it does a great job...

always on, cuz u never know what's in those flash drives. i use avira anti-virus and it works great.

we never EVER let anyone plug anything into the club computer. and if they bring in a cd it's not gettin played that night - if ever - until we've had a chance to give it a listen and see just how horrible it is. and the only time that computer is online is when i physically plug it in to connect.

too cautious? maybe. but thats just us.

@Wildcountry,
Thats kinda hard when they are the show...........We throw Hip-Hop show so if there Dj doesnt come with them I gotta DJ for them. I say burn a CD but if it gets scratched well then that looks bad on me even though I know and they know that their CD's jacked up so I really got no choice. When booking I always tell them to email me their tracks but wether they listen or not is another story..........man I cant rappers, lmfao!! I'll just keep runnin the anti-virus and if it shuts down we do have a back up.

Hey thanks ya'll for the input, Anti-Virus on FULL TIME!!

When i had the virus protection On from my dell 1501 laptop ( Dual Core 2.0 Ghz with 2 gigs of ram Windows XP) I had Usb Drops outs (Once a gig) My Latop was tweaked and wifi disabled. If you are using your own latop with your own hard drive, Why have the Virus Protection on. If your friend is connecting his Hd into your laptopp, I would scan the HD for viruses before i do the gig. Once i know nothing is inside etc, i would disable the Virus protection so your machine is getting all the resources it needs. Scratching uses up alot of resources and return to cue aswell. why have something on consuming resources when you are not browsing the net, E mailing people or downloading stuff ? Your Dj iing and you need your laptop to run at full potential.

yeah i can understand the situation. just do yourself the favor of not using mcafee or norton's for antivirus.

This is a reason I went to a Mac and I'm not touting it, hear me out.

But....I got so tired of the overhead that antivirus takes from the most powerful pc's, should I say robs..and still had threats waiting for the one click that you can't take back.

With this set up, I use the Mac for the internet and run an OEM W7/32 on the bootcamp side for VDJ and my light show when the light show is needed, (because the light show software is pc only and my dongle doesn't have Mac drivers).

Norton IS a virus all in itself when you think about how it infects your every move on a pc.

If you're regularly taking live input from unknown sources perhaps another alternative is to have something like a cheap netbook simply as a scanning machine?

Now that is what I think were gonna roll with!! I hear ya Rick. Got a new baby coming so right now a Mac's not in the picture, maybe next year though,

Thanks for your alls time

If you introduce foreign media to your computer you should have your anti-virus active. CDs can carry a virus too. Since most people have the autoplay option enabled, as soon as you insert that media (CD, DVD, flash drive, etc.) your computer tries to run it. Someone mentioned earlier that you should have a scanning machine. That is probably the best option. Many artists are too full of themselves to worry about you or think that their stuff may have a virus on it. Be glad that you didn't experience a destructive virus. Imagine the club having to close for the night because of a virus.

Bottom line, if you will keep your computer off of the internet and never introduce anything that hasn't been scanned...Turn off your anti-virus. Otherwise...watchout.

That statement is scary and funny at the same time. I don't know if anyone else had this problem but Norton wouldn't let me download VDJ ver 6.1. Since it hadn't been downloaded a lot (at the time) it was considered a threat. I had to really jump through hoops to get that download.

Agree on point one.

The problem is, even when you think its off, its not.
Then there's UAC and oh....VDJ runs full screen so when windows updates and decides its time to reboot....oops.
Windows did not detect that you were live at a gig, we're soooo sorry...
Don't forget to add that to the list to turn off and put up with the blasted warnings that you are exposed...
