The short question is, how many Pro DJ's do you think use BPMs to Beatmix?
When you consider that the vast majority of CD players, DJ Software and many mixers feature BPM counters, I do wonder at times how many DJ's use them?
I use them because I mainly deal with Commercial music, the Tempo between tracks changes massively, so BPMs in the database indicate what is possible to Mix in, so all options are presented. It also means syncing is much quicker and relieves the stress of hearing two beats go off time in the headset and having to make too many manual adjustments.
I find that most DJ's do use BPMs, although a DJ using Turntables probably doesn't have BPM readings, but then most DJ's who use Turntables play music of a simular style, some play House and Trance, whilst others play Urban for examples, so the BPM range is not quite as wide, and being focussed on one style means there is less to become familiar with, so beatmixing manually isn't such an inconvenience, but I say if it's there then use it!
What's your view?

well it does increase efficiency... and promotes.... creativity
as a novice dj... i have entered into some pretty big gigs
thanks to bpm usage.... i have been able to come out smiling so far....(having those bpm tagged has enable me to do some mixes even between genre (lot of experimenting) that i know i could not have done otherwise.
However...... it is still good to learn proper mixing and syncing beats manually.. i am still practicing to master it fully and quickly however.....this is just to ensure that i do... cause quite simply put.... bpm usage rocks
But the fact is without bpm usage........ i may have never got the courage to even take the gigs... and

I've always used CD players - so I really don't know how to do it manually,
Having said that - why even worry about such things?
This the reason we use a sofisticated software package - to make our lives easier
I see no point in going backwards to tapping my foot and counting downbeats

Even before BPM counters became standard on everything, I had the BPM on the labels of my records. (Yes I actually used records at one point.) An earlier posted said that he plays across different genres, and it does help immensely for that. For the most part I can figure most BPMs in my head. (within about 2-3 bpms)
