Topic: help with the way VDL lists files...

Ok, this is driving me bonkers...

I have two folders that I store my music on and they are both sharing the same external HD.

Folder 1 stores all my audio only tracks (wav and mp3).

Folder 2 stores all my video tracks (vob only).

Both have a "fave" folder that I created within VDJ file structure I named the audio file and video folders differently and they differ from the built in "Video" and "Audio" folders.

Both my folder 1 and folder 2 utilize the same file nameing structure.. bmp-artist_-_song_title.xxx

The wierd part is that when folder 1 (with the audio only tracks) is sorted by artists, the "bmp-artists" show up under the artists column. Folder 2, when sorted by artist (video only tracks) shows the correct artist name but lists the hand typed bpm at the beginning of the title such as bpm-title...

What in heck is deciding that the bpm is moving to a different column? It's driving me bonkers and naturally I'd like the local database to list everything methodical and the same no matter where the file resides..

I stress again, no naming convention is different between the two folders....prime example of my naming is : 83.0-billy_idol_-_rebel_yell.mp3

try pressing recurse :)
 
whats "recurse" and how would I find it? Thanks as always sky =D
 
Recurse is used to update the database when you move files

right click on the folder and do this :)

I was just gonna say I saw your posting in another area in regards to the recurse button.

I never moved the files, they have always occupied the same folders respectfully.

I tried it and even experimented with removing the fave folders and creating virtual to no avail...


Grrr, thanks as always...unfortunately it didnt work =(

Are you absolutely sure about your 'no naming convention difference' comment?
My reason for asking is that even a space between the bmp and artist can make a difference. Also, what are your Read ID3 tags setting in the config - options section?
Turn that to Disable or you will always get mixed results in the browser.

There is one small variance..the audio folder includes a period sybolizing the exact digital bpm...whereas the vob only folder has the bpm rounded...such as:

84.5-berlin_-_the_metro.mp3

The vob is named:

84-berlin_-_the_metro.vob

I experimented with removing the period and rounding the audio folder out but no difference ensued. Thats even after the utilizing the "recurse" feature and removing all virtual and favorites folder and creating new ones. I've never modified the default Video and Music folder.

Also, my audio files have no tags and the setting within VDJ are disabled.

Sky are you referring to "runVDJ - XML Database Validator, Backup, Repair Tool"? I've used it on this database to no avail =(

open up the database and check
near the end that the song tags are closed

ie.

Im half tempted to temporarily remove my user database and experiment with a new one. Hopefully I can replace the new one with the old if the test goes bad =O
 
 
Hmm, the program only worked with the mp3 files. No wav or vob files could be read. I have since uninstalled it. Creating a new database failed as well. The same results as before with the reversed naming. Below is my mp3database.txt, as you can see theres no variance between the naming conventions:
F:PROMO ONLY80-lenny_kravitz_-_it_aint_over_til_its_over.VOB,208470016
F:80s-90s83-billy_idol_-_rebel_yell.mp3,8067493

one other thing have you tried dj cels registry tool?
 
Tried it to no avail. Unless there was something I missed. Same symptoms. You mean to tell me all you guys dont have this same dilemna?!
 
nope which is why im bemused il keep trying to find a fix for u!
 


Will test tomorrow, why it happens... Might just be some weird thing since your filenames have lots of underscores and more going on....

the "real" naming convention of VDJ is like this :

Artist - track.mp3

your issue where might be that you have lots of underscores.

And I guess you dont want to rightclick each file and manually set how its displayed in VDJ database? (Because you can change it inside VDJ).

So let me test whats wrong, and suggest how to mass change it with a free tagger utility

 
Interested in knowing what happened Norway...right now my only option is to rename the files within VDJ via "rename" to get them to display properly.
