Topic: How to set up MULTIPLE effects for shortcuts in Virtual DJ 4

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

okey, since many seems to have hard time understanding the new way of working with effects and how to set it up at keyboard shortcuts and external midi devices, here is how :

(1)
Effects are now collected as subfolders to the Plugin folder inside VDJ install folder.
So your sound-effects are located here:
c://ProgramFiles/VirtualDJ/Plugins/SoundEffects

If you like to use effects installed for 3.4, just copy the selected effects from VirtualDJ3.4 effect folder, over to the VirtualDJ4 folder.

(2)
Now, to set up permanent effects in VirtualDJ4 you have to rename some of your favorite effect DLL files.
Reason is that Virtual DJ4 is unlimited in effects use, so it follows the alphabetical order of your effects inside your effects folder.

To set up PERMANENT effects to keyboard shortcuts or midi device, you must rename those effects you want to use, so that the alphabetical order stays the same.

This is an example of the logic:
01-flanger.dll
02-beatgrid.dll
03-echo.dll
04-backspinn.dll

etc, for as many as you like....

(3)
Now, go you your keyboard shortcuts tab inside VirtualDJ4.

Select ADD >> EFFECTS

Choose the function "effect_select" and choose a value according to the alphabetical order in your effects folder.

In the case above, 01-flanger.dll, will be value number 1, and 02-beatgrid.dll will be value 2.

Asign this to a key (that is not in use for other functions), or to a trigger on your midi device.

Lets say we want the Z key to be flanger, this would be :
"effect_select >> value 1 >> press key Z"

Contiunue with other keys for other effects you want to map.

(4)
Now, you have set up selection for each effect you want to use, and made sure VDJ selects the right effect for each key that you want.

Next is to activate the effect on the SAME key.

Do the same as above, but select "effect_activate"
Then press the SAME key as mapped to an effect.

In our case for flanger, choose:
"effect_activate >> value ZERO (DONT CHANGE) >> press key Z"

Do this for all your effects that you have mapped.

VOILA ! thats it

by the way, you can also choose how this new shortcuts should be used, by 4 choices:

- default deck (the deck&song active in use)
- deck1
- deck2
- active deck

use the drop-down menu if you want to select the shortcuts for each deck, or leave with "default deck" if you want it to be shorcuts for the active song

What is the code to make a button in a skin do this? If you declare two buttons with different actions in the same spot, it seems that only one gets acted upon...

And how with Hercules Console Mapper????

then what's the difference between default deck and active deck?

it seems to me both trigger the deck that is currently active heh

I made some shortcuts with "Momentarily" effect, there is a problem with changing effect. What happens is, when I press one effects it is ok, but when I press some other one, it stays pressed like I didn't used "Momentarily" parameter and I need to cancel it on the skin because button on the keyboard can't cancel it. Maybe a bug or something else?

I have mapped all my fx already, but I no longer have the ability to start more than one effect at a time from the keyboard shortcuts (v3.4 i could run 3 at once), with the instructions above as I select a new key, its stops the previous effect and starts the next one. How do we get multiple effects to run at once from the shortcuts?

you can NOT!

It will only work in skin, if you want multiple effects on, at the SAME time...

Hopefully 4.1 will fix it so that the same is possible with keyboard shortcuts

That's kind of dissapointing, but not the end of the world, the waveform display makes up for it. Any reason why some effects don't work in V4?

What effects?
Some are made for 3.4, and dont work before the effect maker have made it v.4 ready

do you not remember the 'do you realy want 3 at the same time?' thread about 3 months ago?

the dev team asked what we wanted and they acted on it, we now have sacrificed more effects for better control of 1, well apparently anyway

you still CAN run 3 effects at the same time... hey, can even run 10 effect if you like... ;)

BUT... only in skin!

The shorcut for keyboard does not allow more than one at the time, so that keyboard shortcut needs to be fixed, thats all ;)

final answer :) so waiting for fix :)

I've got 4 effects assigned to 4 buttons on my midi controller, with the "select" and "activate" commands attached to each key, as per dj-in-norway's instructions. It works, but the fx button needs to be pressed twice to make it activate. For example, if the beatgrid effect is currently selected but not activated, and I push the "flanger" button, the first push selects it, and it takes a second push to activate. Is there a way in midi to make the "select" and "activate" commands happen at the same time? Or am I just showing my ignorance of all things midi... (also very possible ;-)

@DJ Xeo - I haven't been here that long :-) If theres a fix on its way I'm happy to wait.

@DJ-in-Norway:

Thre are some old fx like "psycho echo", "Quadriphonic Flanger" and "Brake Beat" (not "Beat Brake") which work in 3.4 and not in 4.

Effects made for 3.4, that dont work for 4.0 needs to be updated by the user that made the effect;)

VDJ4 has new sound engine, and some new ways of working, so not all effects from the older 3.4 will work (yet)

Followed all the instructions and managed to assign effects to keyboard short cuts. But how can you deactivate an effect using the same keyboard shortcut? for example (A) activates the flanger and pressing (A) again deactivates the flanger?

This was possible in VDJ 3.4

Im using VDJ 4.1 now
