Don't forget, with 2.1 one of the coolest improvements isn't even listed in the history. In 2.1 when you choose one sound card and a mixer, you actually get FULL mono output to each channel in the splitter. Prior to 2.1 you only got 1 stereo channel on each side. This was a HUGE improvement, and could actually illiminate the need for 2 sound cards.
