话题: Use a DDJ-RB as SUBController like DDJ-XP2
Hello VDJ community, how's life? Happy New Year! 🎉

I'm currently debating whether to invest in a DDJ-XP2 to use the pads while DJing in a club setup, especially when no digital mixers like the S5, S7, or S11 are available.

While I’m tempted to spend €350 on the DDJ-XP2, I’m hesitant because it’s a 2019 product, and I’m worried that Pioneer might release a new, updated version soon.

On another note, I own a DDJ-RB and was wondering if I could repurpose it to function like a DDJ-XP2 when connected to two CDJ-2000s or CDJ-3000s and a DJM-900.
My idea is to use the pads on the DDJ-RB for triggering stems, effects, cues, while relying on the rest of the equipment for mixing.

I know it sounds like a tricky setup, but with VDJ's incredible configurability and flexibility, I believe it might be possible to make this work somehow.

What do you think?
Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated!

It can work (you may need to do a little remapping on the RB) but the real question is if it worths the space..
I mean DDJ-RB is a small controller. However it's size ain't small compared to DDJ-XP2, and then again you are not going to use half of the controls on it.

I don't know if Alphatheta (former Pioneer) is going to release something similar to DDJ-XP2.
However, I would go for it, today. if that's what I needed. After all, there are plenty of people out there using the original DDJ-XP and some may be even be still using DDJ-SP.
Keep in mind that device upgrades usually happen in order to accompany new software features.
However, that's not the case with VirtualDJ.
With VirtualDJ you can remap any new function on any old gear, therefore minimizing the need to change gear.
As an example: Pioneer had to release FLX-10 for stems support in Rekordbox. However with VirtualDJ you have stems in every Pioneer controller.

My point is that you worry too much if a new model is going to come (and if you actually gonna need it).
So yes, DDJ-RB will work, but if I was you, I would go straight for DDJ-XP2

Thanks so much...I know all the above, but I have the RB unused and it would be a temporary solution...
But I really don't know how to map VDJ to have this weird setup running smooth.
Will see...

Go for the xp2, it's more practical, It'll be functional for years and you'll learn more mapping it to cater to both padless club rigs and addition controls when using your personal rig, rather than dealing with the nuances of adding a whole controller to a club rig just for pads.
I still roll with reloop neons, old as dirt but it sends midi and that's all it needs to do.

Im looking tor Sampler Volume Knob on the DDJ-XP2(like the one I have on the DDJ-1000), but I can't find it.

How can I adjust the samples volume?
Thanks in advance!

is there a way to midi map this knob in DJM-900NXS2 and assign it to Sampler Volume Knob in VDJ?

Thanks!

Since the DJM is a hardware mixer, even if this knob would send midi, it would also still alter the balance, which is probably not what you want.
But since you use the XP2 together with the DJM, don't you have the sampler routed to one of the DJM channels already anyway? (And therefore can just use the level/gain/eq of that channel to adjust the sampler)

Thanks but I dont understand...I think the XP2 doesnt have a mixer channel...
Bear in mind I've just ordered the XP2 and I need to test it against a club setup (2CDJ NXS2 + DJM900NXS2) as soon as it will arrive this week.
I was just trying to prepare myself in order to test all the funcionalities.
I bought the XP2 to manage pads (CUEs, STEMS, EFFECTs, LOOPS etc) when I play in the club and I cant bring my DDJ-1000.

I suppose currently you use the sampler from the pads then and have them output to the same channel as the pads?
Except for stemswap banks (but then you probably want to keep the deck volume anyway), you can use samplerOutputDeck to have the sampler output to deck 3 or 4, so that you can control the sampler from your mixer.
