Can anyone advise how to set up a connection between two laptops so I can have Showxpress on my Surface, which would communicate with VDJ on my main lappy? Both have Win11...
One thing which may complicate any suggested setup is that I also need my usual internet access to my main laptop, which is either WiFi or USB phone tethering.

Not sure why you need two separate laptops?
I have both VDJ and ShowXpress running on the same machine with no issues whatsoever.

I have limited USB ports on the main lappy, I would like to see the live DMX buttons at the same time as VDJ, my main laptop is not touch screen, I can put a second tablet anywhere close, it can be used for dmx control by another person while I'm djing...

My settings in ShowXpress are:
File>Preferences>
Network:
Software: 127.0.0.1 port 7347 UDP
External App: Enable port 7348 TCP
VirtualDJ: Enable port 7350 TCP
Hardware:
Address: Your VDJ PC, communication port 7349
Web server port 80
Autodetect interface: Enable use broadcast
In VDJ:
Settings>Options>Internet:
os2I Yes
Works perfectly for me with two PCs Windows 10.
