I don't think it makes any sense at all to have the unload button sometimes available and sometimes not.
It is not available at all in starter and essential views. In pro view, it is only available if not in video mode, or when in video mode and a video is not loaded. In performance view, it is always available.
I mentioned this when the new default skins first came out. There appears to be pretty of room for the unload button in the same space as the cue, play, and sync buttons. There it would be consistent and visible in all views.
