It seems like a no Brainer that the ddj xp2 is the perfect device for stems, yet I can't find anything on it. It would seem that with 16 pads per side, that this would be a feature combo that both virtual dj as well as Pioneer would want to push. Am I wrong, or is there a technical issue preventing this from being as awesome as I imagine?

Not sure what you meant...
Not able to change pads to stems or ?
Can use stems both on pads and on EQs on this model ...
And DDJ-SX2 is a popular controller with VirtualDJ

Pioneer DDJ-XP2 is natively supported already.
And despite the fact that "Stems" pad page is not a default mode for this unit you can change ANY of it's 8 pad page modes to stems.
Also, if you want to get creative you could create your own pad page that you could split to "half stems" - "half hotcues" or something similar.
Unless of course you mean something else...
