35 years ago I was an active mobile DJ. Back then I was using cassettes, possibly THE WORST media for DJ’s, I stopped just before CD’s began to replace all other media for DJ use, even in 1986 decks and CD’s were rare and prohibitively expensive.
I am not an audiophile by definition but I am that guy that has crazy audio equipment, parties at my house have been known to be pretty epic. In my house I am solely responsible for the music and for 5 years Virtual DJ has been my go to software, I use very few of it’s features for my home parties but it’s SO easy to use and so intuitive, even my guests can figure out how to cue up a song and get it to play. Nice!
I have on many occasions been asked to DJ other events, I have always declined as it is a lot of work and a lot of stress when the success of someone else’s function depends on your skill and equipment reliability. Recently I have been reconsidering my position on the matter, to that end I purchased a Pioneer DDJ-SR controller that included a license for another very popular software package, ugh, I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to figure this software out, nothing about it is easy (my opinion)
2 days ago I booted up my copy of VDJ and plugged in my DDJ-SR, bam, VDJ instantly recognized the controller and asked if I wanted to use it, I clicked yes and now I have 28 days left of this trial. Wow, so easy, so intuitive, so fun. How can VDJ be so easy to use and other software be so frustrating, the other software is free for me to use but who needs the grief? I’m now considering the one time purchase of a VDJ license, even if I only rarely use the software, the ease of use is worth the price of admission.
I look forward to learning more about VDJ and maybe in the near future I might DJ my first event for someone else, it’s been a very long time.

Welcome on-board, and VirtualDJ is for sure more intuitive and fun that "the others" ;-)

You'll love it now more than ever

Welcome, yeah vdj is by design easy to just plug and play, but that's only half the story, if you're that way inclined vdj can do loads of technical stuff that the other softwares simply can not.
Enjoy the trial, and if at some point you start wondering "could vdj do this?" don't be afraid to ask, because vdj probably can.

Thanks...
I’ve been spending lots of time learning my new (to me) controller with VDJ
Already some issues have arisen such as intermittent cross fader, I disassembled cleaned and adjusted now it’s perfect.
Next issue noisy outputs when no music playing, I have to get some decent cables but right now there is a high frequency oscillation on the outputs.
As for VDJ it’s just great.

OK so noise issue resolved but it is bitter sweet.
You see I was going to use my gigabit/asus gaming pc as the platform for software and music storage, much bigger hard drives, better graphics card, more ram and better cooling. My assumption is that my pc would ultimately be more reliable however it turns out the USB 3.0 (blue) ports on my PC are noisy, probably under powered (more testing required)
So for now I’m connected back to my laptop with an external hard drive for all my ripped, from my cd’s, music. Output is quiet as heck through my Roland MA-12c powered monitors.
Next test is in my rec room, QSC amps, EV MTL-2 subs, Klipsch industrial LaScalas.
This is going to get stupid. LOL

Could be an earth loop. You could solve it with a ground loop isolator.

Thanks!
I will try a few things to see what I can do to get rid of the noise, I haven’t given up yet.

A test for this is to try running your laptop on battery.

No no it works fine with my laptop, my pc is what causes the issue.

I also came from TDK metal tape, to vinyl and VirtualDJ now. I miss the flange of analog, but I'm confident technology's going to open up many doors for musical people.
