Modern or Traditional will be both help.

I've gathered some already plus what the couple has given me... but MORE is better than LESS.

Thanks

Sounds like madness to me....If I get this right, you accepted a gig to do something you have no knowledge of or expertise in....Should go well then......

LOL! You folks made me laugh.

For a new member like MickyMix250 I won't be surprised with that kind of response. For Kradlife, I will take it as a joke!

But to give you a little story of the gig...

Part 1
The BRIDE saw me at my resident club and approached me because she wants to bring on her wedding what I was doing that night.
Mixing back and forth from classic dance music with the modern hits and LIVE REMIXING using my Roland AIRA Set Up... See below.

Part 2
Canada is very DIVERSE... I, myself just like the couple are Canadians who came here as immigrants.
It is Canadian Wedding with guests coming from Germany and Russia.
(As mentioned above, I got the Bride's playlist and some of my personal research)

Part 3
As professionals, we all want to hear that WOW from our clients. This is just me humbly asking for proven bangers on Russian and/or German weddings.
Something that might surprise one of the guests or the couple themselves. Thanks, but your sausages won't help as there will be lots of those for sure on the buffet, LOL!

Part 4
Being DJ since 2007, I am NOT a beginner. You probably have more years of experience but I am a MUSICIAN too since 1988. So I have been into some kind of shows that you probably haven't been in.
In short, I'm covered and just trying to go an extra-mile.

So let's go back to the topic while I'm rehearsing my main set. :)

What if you would post what you already got from Bride and your Research?

I could help you with German as I'm living Close to Germany (4Km) but There's no way I start posting and you tell me that you already have those Songs.

I know lots of german Party Songs that can be mixed into a modern Dance Playlist.

depending on the guest´s age, most of the 90`s Eurodance Classics like Haddaway and Dr. Alban are highly recommended
if it is a realy party (hard) crowd, some ApresSki or Ballermann Hits will suite also
if the they are 40+ some german pop songs from the 70´s and 80´s will fit too ( some tunes of these will them make freak out )
just give a call if you need some more suggestions
( as mentioned ... it really depends on the couple/ guest´s age )

Does not sound like madness to me. Sounds like money. As a professional DJ, we have the knowledge and expertise in making people dance. I only speak English, but do a variety of different ethnic and cultural affairs every year. I don't have to speak their language, just play their music. This is not going to be a Russian and German party. It's a party, with some Russian and German guest. He will only need a few of these songs, as the client has already provided some of the essentials. What he is doing, is going the extra mile, to surprise the client, with a few songs that he has researched. This is how you get repeat business, bigger tips, and a better party.

I don't get it, but the Russian girls at my club love "Alla Pugacheva - Million Roses". This is a very old song, that their grandmothers must have sung to them, but they flock to the stage and sing. I have played it at receptions with Russian guest, and they also love it. You can also take request, if the client allows it. I provide sticky note pads (no phones at receptions for me) for them to write down request. As one of the other posters said, I don't know the age group, so some of the clubbier stuff may not be appropriate.

This is not the same as me doing a party in Germany or Russia, as clearly I would be at a disadvantage. Unless the client hired me, because it all comes down to who is paying you. If they know that you don't speak their language, and don't have their music, and still hire you? Who am I to say no? They may be selfish, but as long as the client is happy, and I got paid, this is a beautiful thing.

Hmmmm....so I have come in for some flack for saying what I did,,,,
I shall try to qualify what I said then...
As a Dj (Since 1970)...
You will get situations where a client will say that they want certain songs to be played, the skill here is to integrate them into a playlist that will be seemless and keep the atmosphere moving forward.
Ok. Here is my issue. You have no idea what these songs are, how popular they are, are they floor fillers, are they just songs they like, will they fill or clear the dance floor?
You have entered an area where you are not in control.
Every Dj tries to put a program in place to make the evening go well and make themselves look good, if you have to stick in several tracks that you have no idea what the crowd reaction is.....well....live or die on the crowd reaction....might make the night, might kill the mood....
What I am saying is, you are at the mercy of the crowd and it can go wrong. Better to be sure what you do and understand the tools you work with.

You never can be sure 100% ;-)
Each crowd ( at least at private parties ) can be different.
But i agree that having guest from other countries on a gig can be a callenge
( but... isn´t challenge what we are also looking for ? )

Sorry for delayed reply but thanks for all the replies.
The wedding was a success!

Extra work pays off!!!
They've added a an additional $100.00 to their remaining balance. This is not too big but the sign of appreciation is what counts here.

@MickyMix250 - I don't have anything personal against you.
It's just that to me, you sounded like a giving a comment to a newbie that's why I felt like I need to tell something about myself.

All good... Cheers!
