This is really awesome, but I'm not sure how to use it!
I've painstakingly assigned BPM markers manually in most of my tracks so I don't want to try it on more than one for now.
The first analysis just seemed to wipe my markers, trying again with "1 of 4" checked did then detect some transitions in the track, but not very effectively, on a quantized track with two tempos and a cleverly produced non-gradient transition section.
I fully understand that this must be a total nightmare to accurately detect the transition points and so few tracks have it that I'm not to bothered if it's not very reliable (I'm already marvelling at the new accuracy of simple beatgrid detection accuracy)
So what I am really interested to know is what "1 of 4" means

The 1 of 4 is a toggle that you can use on each of the individual markers to indicate that this marker is the first beat of the measure, instead of continuing counting from the previous beat.
The exact position of the automatically set markers may indeed often not be very accurate, but as long as the track has several independent areas with varying bpm and/or phase it should be enough to at least have a reliable beat-grid for mixing the track with other tracks.
It is still very basic at the moment, so it might still miss some bpm transitions, and it is also not suited for gradually increasing/decreasing tempo's or live drumming.

Ah now I understand, thanks. Previously having to jam 3 beat markers in a single beat to create a [first beat of bar] wasn't ideal so this is a cool feature, thanks.

Most tempo transition tools will change the tempo gradually from the origin to destination BPM, surely at some point a new grid will be detected?
What I think I'd like to happen, if I load a track that starts at 105bpm for at least the first 8 bars, the BPM should show up on the deck at 105bpm. Now let's say this leads to a breakdown, which gradually shifts the tempo up, until a drop at 128bpm, during the shifting, the BPM counter could either start shifting to show the change (live) or go blank until it finds a new stable beatgrid, in this case on the drop, where it should change to 128bpm. In the BPM field of the browser, multiple BPMs should appear, so the BPM would read "105-128". Of course this type of scan should only be applied to suitable tracks, otherwise it could be messy for ordinary fixed tempo tracks. While a track may may go from 128-105-128, the main thing point is that the intro and outro BPMs are correct.

As people have been asking/suggesting for a long time - a live BPM display.
Surely if the tap function can work out a BPM from 4 button pushes then it should be just as easy to read it from the file?
Come on Atomix. I've got a little hardware unit from decades ago, that can display a live BPM. It should be possible for software in 2017.

Without knowing what the team is thinking I'd say no live read out because our fxs are mostly grid based which I would think would cause problems or they'd have to change up how our fxs work.

I'm not saying should be linked to anything else (grid or FX), just that there should be an option to have the music read live as it plays.
When (or if) VDJ gets to the point where we've got a smart enough beat detection and grid placement then fine, but until then...

typed "transition" in browser.
told it to rescan everything that had transition in title.
i'm cool with it.
except... and this might be going in the wish list (and I only mention it hear after reading about live bpm read) wyhn you have a synched sample playing it will not stay on the beat.
maybe live bpm read will do that?
who knows.

....when there are beat grid anchors for tempo changes, you mean? So the beat grid is not feeding the new tempo to the sampler?

start a transition track playing with a looped sample and at the start and see if it stays locked on the beat all the way through

A transition track that you've run through the 'multiple bpm detection' that now has several anchors, or just a plain old 'no anchors' one?
I don't use/have any transition tracks anyway (seems to be a U.S. thing).

bpm transition tracks/videos used to be a good way to get the uptempo transition on the floor before vdj and that nifty pitch lock instead of riding it manually and praying you didn't make a tracker trainwreck. and especially handy when doing things on the fly and in a hurry because you have a VERY limited amount of time in the set and you want to go from say 100 to 128 and still want to keep the floor. pre-produced transition tracks (maybe called something else over there?) as long as you don't over use them and they can hold the floors interest will do the trick.
and since i already scanned everything with the new beat analyzer i can't give good data.. but the drum beat sample or any other sample I loaded wasn't staying on the beat
with the transition. i may have to set more markers. or it could be something else. dunno yet.

I use a combination of self made transition tools as well as manual techniques, different methods/edits for different situations.

so do I, but many of these are from previous years and while we do occasionally still use them because they just work on the floor generally these days we just hit pitch lock and throw some flash at it and go from there.
there's still music video editors who put those out but they gotta be fairly good to have staying power.

Agreed there's techniques which are better done live, and advanced tricks which are either very hard or impossible to do live, especially when using various versions of the same track with samples ontop.

Im wondering why not just figure out how to implement the warping feature right in the POI window. Overwriting the original track once you have it warped properly. I mean you would blow the dj software game away. just a thought.

Warping for live drum tracks, I'm not sure we'd want to warp transition tools though :D
