So I picked up one of these boxes but I'm not completely sure it does anything that huge other than the eq and the compressor.. But still.. Is it really worth using or leave.. Just wonder what others have to say

I have one but very rarely use it. Depends what other equipment you have i guess. I run an analogue mixer which can already do more than most of the functions on the GoRack, but the feedback suppression can be useful if you do karaoke. If you mostly club DJ then they will almost certainly already have an in-house sound processor. So it depends what equipment you have and what type of gigs you mostly do.

Yes most clubs I go to have the rack version in place.. One club I'm trying to readjust it because the way it set is terrible

I am not sure that will be successful. If it is an EQ thing, then if they are cutting frequencies, then boosting them frequencies before they hit the club processor wont do anything, they will still be cut to the same. I think I would try and speak with their sound guy and ask him to adjust. Ask if you can set up early one day and both have a play with the sound.

I have one and use it once in a great while.

For this club.. there isnt a sound guy.. and when one comes in, he sets it based on numbers... not actual sound that will suit the space.. so I DJ there all the time and am adjusting it to suit the club. One thing I found was the EQ mid and highs were way too high..no shock there as I can hear that, and the Sub Synth bass was set to all 80%.. knew that as well as DJing all night the house mixer bass EQ is ALL THE WAY DOWN and the bass is still out of control lol.. but anyhow, the was a left field rant haha.. Ive used the go rack on my own system and I just do not know if its something I need.. the compressor alone is nice and the anti feedback for the rare times I fill in with karaoke ... other than that... IDK lol......I keep messing witjh it here and there just seeing what it can do for me.. Well built little unit. First mistake I did.. used pretty cheap XLRs to go from my rig to the GoRack... lost most of my dynamic range in the wires alone and thought it was the box... Picked up better built XLRs made all the difference there....just a side note

For the price of the unit, you may as well have one, you cant have too many tools in the arsenal. And yes, agree with the cables. I will only use Designacable Van Damme Nuetrix cables these days. Hand made and brilliant quality. I have replaced every cable I have with these including all my spares. Had a load of cheap Stagg ones before and just prone to problems. That said, the amount of people I see using dmx cables thinking they are audio cables and vice versa :)

OMG using DMX for audio... my experience with that from getting started years ago... no bottom end in your sound smh but people still try it.. This brings me to another question actually... I want to order some really good cables from 3ft length to 30 feet.. in the US, whats a good brand and where can I buy? I been using Monster cables as the guitar center is right next me.. never had an issue at all, but I always wanted a heavier cable as I feel these are on the flimsy side.

I'm not sure about the US but the only cables i will use now are these ones, and they are brilliant.

OOOooo I love the colors.. I like color coding my wires to I can quickly spot them in my hook up..but may not be available in the USA

Oh yeah, not sure what it is like in the states, but in the UK. 50% of the DJ's you see in pubs and social club type places, are setting up a laptop running cracked VDJ7 on a pasting table with a dirty cloth over it, some nasty lights from maplin, £100 speakers distorting everything, including all the audio they ripped off youtube, automix on all night as they wonder around drinking beer and perving over anything in a skirt. :)

Yeah i use different colours for different lengths so i know which ones are which, and it distinguishes them from the power cables in the bag.

We have those here too.. I get embarrassed for them when I see that lol

I've seen some pretty kooky club set ups,
one I remember, the analogue mixer had -32dB eq kill switches and the bass one was broken off in the kill position, this was by the sound tech!
I believe that the bass amp was considerably bigger than the usual bass/mid/treble ratio, therefore even if dj 'keep it in the red' turned up the most costly PA [bass amp & cabs] were protected.... sort of.
And to be fair it worked/sounded... alright, a bit backwards when you consider that something proper doesn't cost that much, but then the club was on the way down
I'm looking at one myself but my scene is club but mobile [small/med venues round here normally only provide auxiliary sound, it saves the club money and generally the promoters are out to show off their rig (it's all about breaking into the festival circuit) ]

Yeah I DJ in this one club that has some very strange set up as well that is mind blowing..but..somehow.. it works lol. There main XLR feed looks home made on wires as small as headphone wires... never did like that and wondered if they are pushing enough signal as it should through those little small things lol.. its nuts...Yes this whole thread is related to my subject in a way that Ive had my sound mudded up using crap cables while also using my GoRack and never really realized the 3ft cables I had were not any good at all.

Loco being a spark will probably know better, but i guess the thickness of the cable is only relevant for the purposes of protecting the core and isolating it from interference. The actual cable inside is only sending 1's and 0's, but protecting it from damage and interference is the difference with a thicker cable. Though the quality of the core maybe better also in a thicker cable.

A few reasons bigger cross sectional area is better.
bigger the CSA the lower the resistance = the lower the voltage drop [mV/A/m], which also kind of makes them less susceptible to noise.
bigger the CSA the more strands to the core = better mechanical resistance to breakages.
When talking about long lengths cables can suffer self capacitance, fatter cables [slightly] introduce self inductance which counters capacitance, [rule of thumb rather than something you'd try measure]
Shielding also adds to your width, but personally I'd rather have single terminated shielding [eliminates earth/ground induction loop]
You can get silly really quickly with 'audiophile' crap [[url=https://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/28-fuses]Audiophile fuses! GMAFB!] but it's navel gazing, this is PA, get a clean signal to the amp and the power drowns out any noise.
