话题: Spotify, radio, and instant gratification has ruined the club

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

So, anymore these days I'm enjoying less and less playing in the clubs. You cant be a DJ anymore. People request music all the time and get pissed if its not next cuz they think its their world. They want a song, they youtube it or whatever and they think they can get the some thing at a club. I HATE IT!. Heaven forbid a DJ introduce a new song these days. As soon as a drop a fresh remix or track, everyone stops and looks at me like WTF until I drop the next trash hip hop track, which I hate. Sorry I can go on and on but just wanted to see if anyone is noticing this these days. I'm in northeast PA, USA and the music tastes here are beyond bad anymore.. real bad

I feel your pain bro but you have to remember YOU ARE THE DJ, you are in control, NOT THEM!

I don't even take requests anymore, ok maybe once in a while but we have a bouncer who sole job is to turn people away when they wanna request a song.

Now not all requests are bad but I have enough confidence in myself to know what and when to drop tracks. After all that's why the club hired us, right??

Every year I take off November and December so the bars/clubs have to find replacements for that time. When I come back I always laugh because the owners and regulars are talk about how bad the DJ was. I usually ask what made them so bad and it seems like it's always because they try to play every bodies request so no one every actually gets in a groove.

I know it's hard some nights but don't let it get you down bro.

Yeah . every request I get breaks the groove if I were to play them, which I hardly ever do lol but I wish people had better taste in music and explore a little bit. Huge college crowd where I DJ and damn the music is bad

That Sir is something at some point many of us deal with. And you are right about people who think because they told you the song they would like to hear it better be next, lol. I concur with all that you said. I do still take requests, but I let them know I will squeeze it in at some point. I only do private stuff anymore these days. Your new music statement rings true too man, some people want to hear the same songs all the damn time.

Yeah Its degrading the club experience bad. I also deal with people not only wanting there song NOW but coming back and demanding it to be played again and then a 3rd time and get very angry when I say no, IM not your Spotify/Pandora account not youtube. This is a club where DJs play and you dance. I do read the crowd and keep most of them going but, every night I deal with this

I do all private parties, weddings and such.
I constantly get requests which spreads all over the spectrum from 60s to Skrillex , most of the time the song doesn't fit at the moment and if not played within a few tracks they will be back hanging screaming over the mixer balancing their beer or whatever.
Sometimes I really have to show them the way back to save my equipment from liquid.
I try to take requests but it's not easy to be "too close" of a friend with the guests.

Whatever you play someone's going to be unsatisfied.
If I play a request I know one is going to be satisfied but the rest might be unsatisfied.
So the best thing to do would be to stick with your original plan and build the groove.

Hi there,This is for the clubs I can feel the pain you are!, give you few advice based on my experience I have been dj-ing since from early 90's and clubs was different than now, in clubs people always been asking the dj to play the song I have played that song ( Only if is a good song ) I have played that song just when I think it should be played ( Not when they wanted ) because playing a good song on wrong time nonsense ( think )if everyone ask you to do so you want be able to create good night out , I say it will be later! keeping them on dance floor to waiting for their song to come up , if you run the party properly don't worry about complaining if somebody complaining your job is to make club goes crazy if you do that you are ok your boss, promoter will be happy don't mater what some people complaining believe me!let's put it that way if the song request is good play it but not straight away just when it's fit in your mix ,especially new songs people wanna to be played straight away so don't, those people will leave the club soon as you play the song that's way they came, I had excuses like can you play that song we leaving in about 5 min.. ok but I'm not gonna play i,t keep them longer!so you see the point soon as you spend the song for them they gonna leave the club what you gonna do to the rest who staying till the end? some people think they can get everything in life like that ! those people are just like that don't pay attention to that, you make sure the all club is dancing and that's your job don't worry about the song request! I Must stay that dj's in 90's was more respected than dj's today we had music education time where people listened what dj played something new and we could make some song's to be hit's in the night clubs'today they say anybody can can be a dj that is shame because that's not true!
to me is like this dj is who is playing in night clubs,bars,parties....
everybody has access to dj gear easily today then before that's way people think everybody is a dj today.
remember this one guy's the equipment does not make you a dj !
For the mobile parties I would say the same for example new years eve,Christmas etc..where the big crowd is involved keep the same otherwise you could destroy the mood and party with false track playing on wrong time!
for birthdays I would say play any request they wanted from you, those are mostly small parties let's 10 people on the dance floor, play what they wanna because that's their birthday!
