Just follow the steps below:

1. connections
- RCA cable from 1st CDJ to Input Channel 1 of mixer
- RCA cable from 2nd CDJ to Input Channel 2 of mixer
- Speakers connected to the Master Output of the Mixer
- USB cables from both CDJs to Laptop.
2. Audio setup.
- Install Pioneer CDJ400 ASIO from pioneer website.
- Open VirtualDJ 8, goto to Audio tab and click on the special CDJ400 button you should see under CARd tab.
This should provide..
deck 1 .... CDJ400 ASIO ... Chans 1,2
deck 2 ... CDJ400 ASIO ... Chans 1,2 (or 3,4 cant recall , i believe the ASIO combines the 2 sound cards into 1, so it should be 3,4)
This should provide proper audio routing to your speakers through the mixer.
Now, the only addition you should do in order to record your mix, is to connect the REC/BOOTH Out of your mixer with the LINE IN of your lapto using a proper RCA to mini jack cable.
and add a record line to your VDJ Audio setup as posted above.
Note. In order to get this extra line, you will need to click on the Line or Microphone button at the tor-right, and then change the provided line with record (instead of Mic or Linein) so that it looks like this..
record ... Your Builtin Sound card ... Chans 1,2
Last but not least, all mixing should be done from your ext mixer. The VirtualDJ mixer should not be used and it should be left in center/default positions.
Pre-listening is also done via your mixer
Note. As stated above from other users, you will need to purchase a Pro Infinity license (or a Plus Controller for the CDJs) in order to work with your gear for more than 10mins at a time.
PS. If you want post screenshots here, you will have to upload pics to some server or Dropbox and provide the link here.

Everyone is making the effort to help you and you are making it difficult
1 learn how to take a screen shot [Google it,]
2 Give us a link to the screen shot of your audio config
3 Describe exactly what is plugged in to what and with what type of wire

You are also logged in here as a home user but state you have Pro infinity. None of this will work unless you are logged in to the software properly. Do you have a cracked version of the software?
Also, read the user manual as you don't even seem to have a grasp of the basics and it's difficult to help you like this.

locodog,
Thanks for your input, however I am sorry if I am not overly clued up with the ins and out of a computer, I thought that's what forums are for, to help each other out,
I have also already explained EXACTLY what I have plugged in to what.
I had vdj infinity brought for me as a present and haven't really used it to record until now,

You can use this link to merge your accounts together: http://www.virtualdj.com/users/link.html
This way, you will be displayed as a Pro user and you will be able to upload screen shots directly to the forum. Then hopefully we can give you the help that you need.

The most important thing for you to grasp here is that you have an analogue hardware mixer, not a controller.
The mixer will not control VDJ. When you have a real physical mixer, you do not need to use the "pretend" mixer onscreen in VDJ.
With an "external mixer" setup, the output of each VDJ deck is sent directly out (in your case to the audio interfaces of the CDJ400s) and the "pretend" mixer is not used.
The default recording in VDJ records from the "pretend" mixer, but you're not using it (because you have an external mixer setup) so it won't record what you're doing on the real mixer - because that's happening outside of VDJ, after the audio has left the software.

Looks almost good, but since you use WASAPI, the second deck is a second interface, and therefore channel numbers start counting from 1 again, so deck 2 channels should be 1&2 as well.

I see, I get what your saying, so my recording is coming down the usb from the CDjs to the laptop, and the laptop dosent realise I'm using the external mixer, if I was to use the vdj mixer the recording would work as it should.
Sooo, how to over come this.?

Thanks Adion.
I was messing around when I took that photo, they are all on channel 1&2.

No. The audio from VDJ is going out from each VDJ deck directly to the left and right CDJs (via their USB connection). It doesn't come back the other way.
From the CDJs it goes into your DJM mixer, and the DJM hardware blends the tracks together (operated by you). The mixed signal comes out of the DJM master output and out of the DJM record output. To record your mix, you need to record what's coming out of the DJM - that's where you're doing the mixing.

Hi Groovindj,
That's exactly what I'm doing.
However as you rightly said earlier it's not picking up what I'm doing on the external mixer.
So how to overcome this.?

So basically VDJ is recording from the pretend vdj mixer when I need it to record from my external djm mixer.
I have he setting as you can see on external mixer and phono to jack coming out the mixer so how do I make vdj realise I'm using a djm600.?
Thanks again mate.

If you have a cable coming from the "record out" of the DJM back into your computer's audio input, then you need to make sure VDJ (or some other software i.e. Audacity) is recording from that input.
From your pictures, you do have a "record" set up in VDJ and it's set to your line input - but it looks to me like the line input is not enabled (the big line input button on the right is not selected). It would be blue like the others if it was.

Okay cool.
I have selected Input but it doesn't now give me the mic/line input option that I need.

You do not need another input in the audio config, the 'record' input is fine.
I missed it in your original picture, but as you see at the right, the input is 'not connected' so that's why recording was not working.
From your second picture you can indeed see that you only have 'microphone' as choice.
You may have to check if the realtek comes with some configuration utility (often found in the system tray) that allows you to choose between microphone and line input.

In the record box I have the right input,
Microphone/line in......
Once I have highlighted the line in, for some reson I don't get the microphone/line in. It just records from the tiny microphone built into the laptop.
But if I do not need the last line in that I highlighted then I'm back to square one still.?
Thank you
