Over Christmas there I got a traktor f1 control to add to my mixtrack 3 and virtual dj 8 setup, along with my macbook pro. Guys my question is wat is the best way to set this up and wot different ways can it be used and can stems also be introduced at some stage and how
Thanks
Any help or comments on this would be a big help.

Stems are just samples. I made about 45 samples out of a single stem group. The actual music quality was not that good.
This number of samples was difficult to manage using the 16 f1 pads. Traktor uses 4 groups x 16 pads = 48 samples.
A better approach is to create your own sample sets of 16 given that is the number of f1pads.
Use a drum machine such as the free Hydrogen.
A sample set would consist of say a kick drum, kick drum plus clap and so on.
Then you would want a cowbell, stick and so on.
A few synths is good.
Atomix have provided a sample set which is excellent for remixing, aiding mixing, reinforcing the beat and so on.
Remember that the beat grid needs to be correct when using a sample set.

I'd check your sound card settings Sonja. It is super easy.

I should add that I now use Ableton to make sample sets. The choice of software is your own, I only mentioned Hydrogen because it's free, and works well.

To answer the OP's question, STEMS are not supported at this time with VDJ.
I know STEMS are all the rage right now but I still get the remix packs from NI are set those up in banks of 8 with my SP1.
I believe you can use QuickTime to pull apart the STEMS though. There's a video done by Phat Bob and DJCITY that say you can anyways, I myself haven't gone that far yet.

I have pulled a stem group apart, and installed it in the VDJ8 sampler.
The result was poor using an F1, I would have done better with an Akai given that the larger number of Akai pads is more in keeping with the resulting number of samples on a page.
You could try using 4 sampler pages with up to 16 samples per page, but moving from page to page is disjointed.
Even the result using Traktor was poor, the remixing was high quality but the content in my case was of little use.
It's not worth doing.
You are welcome to try yourself, it's not hard.
One of the problems is that the songs which are supplied in stem format have to be worth messing around with, the one I used I threw in the bin a little later. I deemed it unusable.
As I say, there just samples.
Why not just make your own?
Note: You don't need Quicktime to split up a stem group.

Stick to the facts Ron, your opinions aren't really helping, lmao!!
You might lime the style of music but others do.
Not all of us need a million buttons so maybe 8 samples is all we need?? Not everybody has the same workflow buddy, lol!!
As for stripping a STEM explaining how you did would probably be more useful, do t you think??

Beatbreaker if you had an F1 it would help you pass relevant comments.
I still have an F1, and a custom made mapping ready to work with VDJ8.
They have not been used for some time.
I have been there, and done it a year ago.
It's your opinions which have no basis in experience.
As for Traktor, and its stems, they were deleted a long time ago.
You will find many references made by me to this here over the last year.
I do in the future plan to reinstall Traktor on its very own laptop, but at the moment I won't let it go anywhere near VDJ8.
I'm still worried about the stability of VDJ8.
Another relevant point about the F1, and the VDJ sampler is that the sample groups need configuring to the size of the pad matrix. To use my F1 with the VDJ sampler I would have to change my sampler groups to suite the 16 pads.
At the moment their configured for 32 samples per page which is the number of Akai pads I assign to these samples.
I believe Mr Jackson uses the default Akai mini mapping which uses all the 64 pads for samples.
It might be difficult for you to understand what I'm saying since you have not done it before.

I HAVE an F1, lmmfao!! So yes experience I do have Ron......
So are you gonna tell us how to strip STEMS or is this a big secret you don't wanna share, at least that would be some useful information..........
And VDJ 8 is rock solid. At least on my system it is now and that's not something I just say to be say it.

If you have why did you not use stems?
You earlier stated you do not have that experience.

I might have made reference to the F1, and stems in this forum about a year ago.
I neither have Traktor, nor stems for the moment.
NI provided me with free stems to accompany my software.
It was quite simple breaking the stems down into samples.
I can't offhand remember the details, I might have just changed the file extensions, and/or imported them into an audio editor like Audacity.
I never use quicktime, or even allow it on my computers.
Hm I might even have just saved each sample (stem component) individually from Traktor's output.
45 samples would not take long.
It's no big deal.

Stuart from a practical "get things working point of view" just use the sample group called "Instruments" in the VDJ8 sampler.
With a little luck the default F1 mapping will do you fine for the time being.
Find some songs with a beatgrid which fits well.
Then try reinforcing the beat (addition of maybe a kick drum), if the song is not DJ friendly the outtro will drop away, que a new song but keep the kick drum running, then beatmix to the new song. If the new song has a strong kick drum then drop the samplers kick drum out when it starts. Don't overlap the intro and outtro, and maybe leave say a 1 bar gap between the songs being mixed. If the solo kick drum sounds a little naked add a clap or stick, or whatever.
Just mess around with kick drums, hi hats, and synths.
You will find yourself remixing songs very quickly.
It's very easy.
If you like the Atomix approach then you can then make your own sample sets to give you a unique style.
You will find that your F1 is a very useful tool for mixing, and remixing.

Another point.
I might have gone back to the F! since 16 sample pads is almost enough, but I do like the 32, or even 64 option (a little bit much for me).
The Akai mini however also provides access to 8 hot cues per deck, and plentiful loop options.
Hence the Akai mini wins.
