Well there's the video gate, to go with gate.
What would be really good if transitions could work as effects and transition to white/black, I'd then go with saturate with noise and bit drain with crush.
But I'm just throwing ideas about.

Crush I envisage a pixelator effect., (down sample the audio do the same with the video)
noise I'm imagining cinefilm distortions, colour fluctuations, cigarette burns, vhs tracking errors with the audio track veering into the video pickup, tape fade. Static.
Again just slinging idea about

So Scott, do these sound doable??
Only thing I ask for whatever you come up with is that 50% kills the fx because that's how the color knobs work which I'm sure you already know, lol!!
