I'm having some issues with some effects in version 8 that would cause the program to freeze and having to be rebooted. I didn't have this issue when using the same effects in version 7 so could it be some type of compatibility issue? and if so what options are available for a fix?

Sounds like it, which effects? VDJ ones or VSTS
Some VST's just won't work, some will but they still might crash once in a while
If it keeps crashing it will be one to throw out
